Dartmouth Battles It Out Against Harvard: A Tall Ship Skirmish on San Francisco Bay.
Port of Redwood City, Redwood City
Sunday, March 17th at 2:00pm

Join fellow Dartmouth alumni as we board the Lady Washington, a historic tall ship visiting the San Francisco Bay. This will not be another day sail, oh no. Instead, we will engage in a thrilling “Battle of the Bay” — a simulated maritime battle reenactment with another tall ship, the Hawaiian Chieftain. This is about real cannons (but no cannon balls), close-quarters maneuvers, and an educational taste of 18th century maritime life aboard tall ships. Oh, did we mention the Hawaiian Chieftain will be populated by the Harvard alumni club?

Our swashbuckling adventure — perfect for the entire family — departs from the Port of Redwood City on Sunday, March 17th at 2pm. Come dressed in your favorite Dartmouth or "Pirates of the Caribbean" gear, for this promises to be an alumni event like no other!

In 1788, the original Lady Washington became the first American vessel to make landfall on the west coast of North America as well as the first to visit Honolulu, Hong Kong, and Japan. At 112 feet, the modern Lady Washington is an exact historic reproduction launched in 1989, and is the Official Ship of the State of Washington.

At 103 feet, the Harvard Club's topsail ketch Hawaiian Chieftain is a replica of a typical European merchant trader of the turn of the nineteenth century. Her hull shape and rigging are similar to those of Spanish explorer's ships used in the expeditions of the late 18th century along the Washington, Oregon, and California coasts.

The number of attendees for this event is limited, so sign up early.
