N15 and F18 fleets,It is time to register for the SFYC Multihull regatta as the link has just gone live. The SFYC race team, led by Forrest Gay, has asked that we be fully registered by September 1st. They have to coordinate volunteers, trophies, and race logistics. If we fail to get enough boats by September 1st, they will be forced to cancel the regatta.Late September is a prime (flood) weekend and we’ve typically raced Saturday on the Circle and Sunday on Knox which makes for a short sail home when it is time to pack up with the bonus of course variety. We start a little earlier to get 3 races in before the wind fully builds and also have a wind limit if it gets too gnarly. Drop trailer on Friday, hoist in on Saturday am and tie up on Saturday pm after racing so you don’t have to hoist out until Sunday after racing.Personally, I’ve been hit with some bad luck, in the form of a boss choosing to get married in Ibiza this particular weekend, and won’t be able to sail with you all. I can’t be out there but my boat will be on the line! I am asking for 2 favors:1) please register ASAP, before September 1st if you plan on racing.2) work to recruit your friends and fellow sailors to drive attendance.Pleas forward this to anyone I’ve inadvertently left off the list.

We have 6 F18s registered with 2 rumored (Chad Freitas and Jackson Wagner) to be joining as well as 4 N15s with 8 awesome youth sailors (and future F18 sailors!).
Also, be sure to congratulate Ben Brown for winning the Hobie 16 North Americans last week in British Columbia. He will be guest helm on CJ Rendic’s boat.

Parking will be tight so be sure to arrive early enough to snag a spot. Or come Friday to rig early. Also, work with our Harbormaster Kevin Tentis (415-505-9734) on trailer parking. He will give you guidance but southern end of the parking is preferred. I have lifting gear that you are welcome to use. Tom Aveston has his set for the Infusion dimensions that you can use as well. Some like to tie up on Saturday to minimize hoisting. Ask Kevin where to tie up if you go that route.
Racing on Saturday is at 11:30 on the Southampton course. I would budget 45-60 mins to get there. Forrest Gay is our Director of Sailing and this regatta’s PRO. He’s very prompt so count on first warning at 11:30 sharp. Bring a VHF to make communication for all easier. He wants to get 3 races in before the wind builds. There will be a wind limit of 23 kts for safety. Forrest usually finishes the last race on Saturday at the windward mark to make for a shorter sail back to the club. On Sunday, racing will be on the Knox course which makes for a short sail home for quicker de-rigging, as well as adding some variety to the racing. If all goes well, you’ll be off the water early. There will be regatta beer (for the F18 sailors!) and snacks. Forrest will let you know where beer will be, but probably near the youth tables, the dry dock, or perhaps “Froeb Island,” where Melvin and Aveston are storing their boats. I will ask the club about hosting a casual dinner on Saturday. Sadly, I will not be able to join as my new boss decided to get married in Spain this weekend.

It doesn’t yet look like it but there are very powerful and gusty NW winds forecast likely ramping up quickly after lunch. If you don’t see us on the race course we decided to head for safety.
