SF F18 Fleet Meeting

SF F18 sailors,

 

I’m working with Peter Curran on setting up this dinner.  The goal is to share the 2020 schedule and discuss:

 

• Regattas we all want to get behind (and those that we don’t)
• Coordinated Fun Sailing dates/ locations
• Bay Area Clinic

 

The trick is finding a date that works for all.  I have the GM at the San Francisco Yacht Club on board with a set price menu, private table, waived corkage.  It feels like we don’t have critical mass for the previously proposed date of SUNDAY, December 15^th.  I have a reservation set for us at the club if we can make this work.  If not, I think we’ll need to roll to Sunday, January 12^th.

 

Please reply if you can make either or both of these dates, please.  All sailors welcome, whether you have a boat, or are interested in crewing.

We're pushing this to January as Charles mentioned below. I'll follow up with a schedule of 2020 regattas on the west coast. With F18 NAs in San Diego next fall, it's a great year to get out and sail as a group.

Hello SFF18 Sailors,

The date of the meeting and dinner is Saturday, January 11th at San Francisco Yacht Club, 98 Beach Rd, Belvedere Tiburon, CA.

The meeting & cocktails will start at 5:30pm and dinner will be at 6:30pm. Please RSVP on this thread. Cost is $30.00.

We've created a schedule of races for the Bay Area and they've been uploaded to the USF18 website. Check out the link:

As Charles states below, in addition to targeting the races to participate in, we want to schedule some fun fleet sails and gauge interest in a clinic.

Thanks Peter and Charles for organizing. I will definitely be there and can buy a round of drinks!

Also, I am in need of parts for my Hobie Wildcat as I blew out the rudder assembly before the SFYC multi-hull this year. If anyone has any leads on where / how to get parts it would be greatly appreciated. I am also considering selling the Wildcat (extremely cheap) and buying a new Infusion (extremely expensive) if anyone has interest in discussing either topic.

In addition, Andrew MacPherson (Macca) will be joining us to discuss running a clinic for the fleet. Andrew was the Product Manager for Nacra during the development of the Infusion, coach of several Nacra 17 Olympic teams and the China SailGP team. He's a good guy with a killer Aussie accent.

Thanks for a great gathering last night. I enjoyed putting the faces to names and hearing your stories. Here's a few things I'll be following up on:

• Here's a shared Google Doc where we can initial the races we plan on participating in: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FkQszTdxl-LhtQmFoO-In7TLpCs8H6KYmdsWHNR79bg/edit?usp=sharing Please fill in the races and events you think you will be participating in the next two weeks. I'll update with NOR and Registration links as available. 
• Fleet Fun Sail during the SailGP event in SF Bay, May 2-3. We'd like to have an F18 on display at SFYC to promote the boat and the fleet. Is there someone who can take the lead on contacting SFYC? If we get the green light, we'll work on getting a boat.
• Timing for clinic was targeted late spring-looking at the calendar, May is busy with Elvstrom-Zellerbach & those who are traveling to Memorial Day at ABYC. I propose an April or June date. Please chime in with your preference and I'll coordinate with Macca. 
• I'll help Shawn update our SFF18 website with the local race schedule and active crew contact list. Let Shawn and I know if there's anyone you'd like to add to the list. 
• There was talk of participating in a Sail A Small Boat Day, but also some take about how challenging it is to take someone unexperienced out, with no wetsuit, etc. Not sure what was decided here. 
• Gary, you mentioned you could cut and anodize bowsprits for those of us that seem to go through a lot of them. Please advise when we need to let you know, how to pay, etc. 

Please let know if I've forgotten anything and please initial the race calendar.
