Hi,

This question's really intended for Yog or Jade, since I think a
definitive answer might be useful.

I'd like to know if there is a general policy about binaries on sffnet
newsgroups. For instance, I know there's a "binaries" group in the
private hierarchy for pictures - but what if I wanted to post a
picture in my own ng? And over in the new Futures hierarchy, there's
a row brewing about .wavs being posted there. So it might be useful
to have a general statement from The Powers That Is on this (I know
it's somewhere in a FAQ, probably - but having it here might save a
bit of wear and tear on the nerves...)

In your own newsgroup, you can set the policy on whether or not binaries
should be allowed.

Elsewhere on SFF Net, unless the newsgroup name contains the word "binaries,"
then we strongly discourage posting binaries. We have no objection to
binaries themselves (except for warez, etc.), but we like to keep them in
clearly-identified groups.

In your own group, you can do what you please. In one of the
other hierarchies, try to create a binaries group, so that those
who want them can find them, and those who don't want them can
avoid them.
