Would anyone have any contacts there, and feel comfortable about
approaching them to donate some banner ads for SFD2010? The idea is
that the banner would link to the 2010 version of this page:
http://softwarefreedomday.org.nz/NZ-Events
In return our group for instance would be happy to display some promo
material for Stuff or whatever.
Let me know if anyone is interested in working on this, I forgot who
that person was from Catalyst, but I can probably go look them up if
needed.
Best,
John Billings

Get the pricing. Ask them if they would donate (I'm not holding my
breath), and then go from there.
Should I chase this up, or anyone else want to?

Our group would be happy to display promotional material for them.
I'm not a big reader of the site myself, but a lot of people talk
about it, and just looking at for a few minutes, it seems like it's
readers may be the target audience.
We also advertise with the community radio station, and post flyers
and have a display at the library. The flyers and library display,
are always the most effective.
We also decided here in Hamilton to have our event at the mall this
year, so advertising is not so important for us this year.
Also I think just asking people to tell there friends, and post info
on distribution lists where appropriate is the very effective. I
remember talking to one person at last years event, who said he found
out about the meeting on a university mailing list.
I'd kind of like to see banners appear on popular sites before the
event, if anything to serve as a reminder.
Does anyone else have ideas about promoting the event before hand?
Best,
John
