Friends -

A reminder that TOMORROW EVENING at MANNY's in SF, we'll be regaled with tales of swing state organizing and reminded of the power of year-round engagement to win close elections by none other than Wisconsin State Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler and Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer

We would love to see you if you're able to join us!
And if you can't make it, you can still support their critical efforts in this dangerously close election with national implications.

For cheese, brats and democracy,
Daisy

Friends-

Please join me, Ben Wessel, Cheryl Contee, Taren Stinebrickner-Kauffman, Steve Schiller, Jim Pugh, the CleanTech Party and Climate Cabinet next Wednesday for a very important fundraiser for two great organizations you should all be supporting: the Wisconsin Democratic Party and the WI Assembly Democrats. The leaders of these two organizations, Ben Wikler and State Assembly Dem Leader Greta Neubauer, will be in SF next Wednesday @ Manny's and I hope you'll join me there!

DONATE and RSVP TODAY:  https://secure.actblue.com/donate/adccdpw20220921  (whether or not you can attend in person)

When you think of Wisconsin, you might think cheese, beer, lakes, and snow. You probably aren't thinking about a state that is on the brink of losing its grasp on democracy, one labeled a "Democracy desert" by international observers for the extreme levels of gerrymandering on par with The Congo, Jordan and Bahrain, and which can determine control of the US Senate and 2024 Presidential election - but it also is.

We can't just pay attention to the Presidential race every 4 years. NOVEMBER 2022 in Wisconsin is a crucial election that can determine the outcome of the next Presidential election as well as the U.S. Senate composure - because in Wisconsin currently:
  • 1 seat short of losing its 33-member State Senate to a GOP supermajority
  • 5 seats short of losing its 99-member State Assembly to GOP supermajority
  • has a great Democratic Governor (Tony Evers) who is on the ballot against an extremist Republican
  • Gov. Evers has been using his veto power as mightily as possible, but it can be OVERRIDEN by supermajorities if they're won
  • Dem Mandela Barnes is running for a crucial U.S. Senate seat on the ballot in 2022
  • has one of the most visionary Democratic State Party Chair, Ben Wikler, who is coming to visit next Wednesday, along with the climate champion Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer, to talk about how they will fight all of this

Read or listen all about it in this Twitter thread with a video of Ben Wikler's interview on All In with Chris Hayes this week.

FiveThirtyEight calls the Wisconsin Senate race the closest race in the country and the Wisconsin Governor's races as one of the top five most competitive races in the country! It's vitally important that we do all we can to win these races!

What: Fundraiser for WisDems and WI Assembly Democrats
When: Weds, Sept 21st from 6:30pm - 8pm

P.S.  Why am I hosting this event when I've never been to Wisconsin? Well, aside from beinge enamored with the mitten shape from a young age...  in the words of my co-host Ben Wessel: "Greta and Ben are unique talents who are doing some of the most important political work out there. Greta is an incredible young leader, rising to be the Minority Leader of the Wisconsin before she turned 30 and doing it with absolute commitment to her own progressive values. She is a young LGBTQ activist who came up fighting with the fossil fuel divestment movement and the youth climate movement. I can attest to her skills as a leader, spokesperson, and all around badass in part because we organized together when we both students at Middlebury College!
Ben is arguably the most successful organizer in Democratic politics in the USA today. After taking over the Wisconsin Democrats after Trump got elected, Ben helped shepherd Gov. Tony Evers' successful campaign in 2018 and Joe Biden's win in 2020. He is one of those people who lights up every room he is in and leads with compassion and heart. He also once wrote lyrics to the Jurassic Park theme song to make fun of fossil fuel-backed climate negotiators at UN climate negotiations --- so he's my kind of dude.

"Wisconsin is GROUND ZERO in politics this year. If we win the Governor's race (go Tony Evers!), we can protect access to abortion for millions of women in Wisconsin. If we win the Senate race (go Mandela Barnes!), we will send a progressive Black millennial to Washington for six years to fight back against the extreme GOP. If we hold our own in these state legislative races (go Greta!), we can prevent a radical GOP state legislature in WI from running roughshod over our Dem leaders like Gov. Evers. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT.
