Hey urrrbody!

So, since SFCDD is "taking a break" for a while, I'm hoping this group will become a spot for everyone interested in the sport to talk about it and arrange times to meet-n-jump!  There are over 100 members on this list, so let's get to know each other!  Introductions please...
1. Name (and/or nickname)
2. How long have you been jumping?
3. How'd you get into it?
4. What are you all about?  What do you enjoy?
5. Favorite restaurant in the Bay Areaaauuaauuuuhhhh!

Here's me:
I'm Switchblade (aka Jill), one of the founding members of SFCDD.  I've been jumping for 8 years and have loved every minute of it.  We started jumping double dutch to get some exercise whilst having social time with each other, plus Death Valley said if I didn't join she'd stab me in the eye with a broken bottle of Casadores.

By day I crunch numbers for a small artsy software company called Cycling '74.  I just got married to an uber-hottie and I love spending time with my man BUT often times you'll find me hangin' with my ladies.  I enjoy adventure...anything new and weird!  This weekend me n Venomiss are going to (a-hem) Ren Faire.  Super geeky but ridiculously fun.

My favorite restaurant in the Bay Area right now is Mua in Oakland.  Tasty motherfuckin' drinks and a great cheeseburger.

Also, I wanted to toss this out there as something to use to arrange double dutch meet-ups.
It's called Doodle (I'm sure there's a ton of these kinds of things available) and allows a bunch of people to vote for different dates/times to allow the most people to attend.

Ok, besos mas grande!

Hi All:

1. I'm Clashgal, in reel life Jennifer.
2. Been jumping for two sessions....Switchblade, Venomiss, and Death
Valley got me hooked on Double Dutch heroin and now they're shutting
down shop. A cryin' shame.
3. Saw a Chronicle article on SFCDD and thought, "I can't do that but
I'd like to try."
4. I'm all about music.....or used to be. Played bass in an all-girl
band way back.....still love music, all kinds. Still go to concerts
when I can. Have not worked in years but have the old family to
mind; a husband of 23 years, and a 14 year-old daughter and 10 year-
old son. Have a foul mouth that I try to control, to no avail....have
a 14 year-old daughter that I try to control, to no avail.....
5. Fav restaurants in the Bay Area are all in Oaktown, my town, right
now....Mua (like Switchblade says), Bellanico, and Commis.

My email is bazz...@gmail.com if you ever want to jump; it only
takes three of us. Or, on Facebook, Jen Evans. Let's keep it
going!!!

Hey DDs!

First, I must say, I LOVE SFCDD (SB, VM and DV - I love love love them and miss them so very much) and can't wait to get back in the ropes. Seriously, I've been hankering some double dutch meet ups BUT having had shoulder surgery in June and getting knee surgery in three weeks, I have to be patient. Although I'm out of commission until next year, I'm always up for being a 'turner' in the interim OR just hanging out and watching Double Dutch videos. I'm down for whatever! So, to answer the lovely Switchblade's questions...

1. Name (and/or nickname) - D-Nicety (from Michelle's song Nicety - A few of the lyrics: "Some people think I'm nice...some people think I'm nasty...but if you really want to know...just ask me...and I'll say I'm nicety"!

2. How long have you been jumping? Overall, more than a year with a lot of solo jumping.

3. How'd you get into it? Saw SFCDD perform at a Roller Derby bout early 2009 and HAD to do it. I got into Roller Derby as well (because of Double Dutch). I got my skate legs from all that double dutching BUT since I've been injured, I'm taking it easy and waiting for my body to heal completely before getting back into everything!

4. What are you all about? I'm all about reading, writing (art writing), art making, visiting galleries and museums, great films, good music, experiencing live music, anything art related, skating, double dutch, watching youtube videos of skating and double dutch, dancing, hanging out with friends and family - What do you enjoy? I think I just said it all so I won't repeat myself. :)

5. Favorite restaurant in the Bay Areaaauuaauuuuhhhh! Gosh, this is difficult. I love Foreign Cinema b/c it combines all my favorite things (film, art and good food) but I love Binh Minh Quah in Oakland (for libations - Beer Revolution is another great find in Oakland)...for casual eats, I have to hop on the SF bandwagon and go with Ike's because I'm a vegetarian (I also eat a lot of vegan foods)...they have a huge selection!

Whew! That was a lot. Looking forward to connecting. I'm definitely looking forward to meeting more of you and getting together. Also, I'm gonna throw it out there, I'm ALWAYS down to be a photographer/videographer for you and your DD crew UNTIL I can get back in the ropes. Holla, please! :) xoxo

I'm FB as well - Dorothy Santos - dorothy....@gmail.com

Hearts and Stars,
D-Nicety (aka D-Nice aka Dorothy)

Hello!

I was so sorry to hear that SFCDD will no longer be offering classes but
am so psyched to get out there and jump. I hope to be meeting up with
some of you ladies in the East Bay some time soon.

1. Name: Shelagh (nickname pending)
2. Jumping History: Jumped DD like a maniac from ages 8-13 back in
Brooklyn; now jump single rope (solo) mostly at the gym.
3. How'd I get into it: It was the late 70s/early 80s, and it was big
where I grew up.
4. I'm all about: Sewing, getting deals at thrift stores,
college/alternative radio, writing and reading, staying in shape.
5. Favorite restaurant: Sea Salt in Berkeley for seafood and great
drinks; Sidebar, Chop Bar, and Flora in Oakland.

SO looking forward to jumping with you!

Hey Ladies, heyheyheyladies (ala beastieboys)

Fine SFCDD take a break, regroup, in the mean time let's start the drinking game version!

1. Name: Renegade (real name Renee)
2. Jumping History: Started with SFCDD last year, only made it to level two but still single rope once a week.
3. How'd I get into it:  My girl Kerosene dragged me out to the class last year - she and I will try any form of exercise available and we usually bail after a week, but I continued on and again only made it so far due to lack of cordination, and crazy work hours.
4. I am all about: downtime (although I have so little of it), reading, drawing, biking, and the bay area's music scene.
5. Puerto Alegre - I have made it a point to eat at this family owned/run restaurant at least once a week for 17 years - IT'S NO WONDER I NEED THE ROPES!

Rock on with your socks on!

Hi all!

Like the rest of you, I'm heartbroken that SFCDD is ending lessons. My
wife ("The Pounce") and I have both done Level 1&2 and started in
All-stars -- we're definitely up for practice and since there are two
of us, we really only need one more person. We live in Soma, only a
couple of blocks from Studio Gracia.

1. Guns, aka Toby Segaran (you can find me on Facebook too)
2. Since the beginning of this year
3. We were sitting at home, The Pounce was playing on her laptop and
suddenly says "oh my god, we HAVE to do this" and showed me the SFCDD
website. We were instantly enamored and signed up right away.
4. Making art with LEDs, dancing, strength training, drinking,
throwing dinner parties, computational linguistics, walking around
foreign cities.
5. Favorite "restaurant" -- eating buns from the Chairman Bao truck
while drinking at the Bloodhound.

Can't wait to meet more double-dutchers!

It was so fun watching these posts pop up in my inbox today! Now my
turn (I feel like I'm writing a dating profile)...

My name's Chaos (or Kelly, you choose). I read the SFGate.com article
about SFCDD last June ( http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/06/26/DDP51E3S11.DTL
)-- they had me at 'Tainted Love'. As soon as I finished the article,
I hopped over* to SFCDD.com and signed up for Level 1.

_Thank f*ck_!!!

I feel SO unbelievably lucky to have gotten into the last two classes
SFCDD are gonna teach! (For now. They'll be back. We all just have
to work up a good blackmail plan.)
Had never jumped Double Dutch before (ever), and was not exactly in
Prime Physical Condition. That first warmup made me cough for two
days. But I loved it instantly, and have been astounded by my passion
for it. I've never played a sport, never been on a team... but for
the past few months, constantly on my mind has been Double Dutching.
It has changed my life (which sounds exaggerated, but it's not).
There's now an attitude I didn't have before. I feel confident. I
feel fit. I have skillz!

And I'm positive there are others of y'all out there who feel the same
way. Yay!

I'm an Anglophile and I've been a Duranie for more than half my life
('DD' had always meant 'Duran Duran' to me, til recently!). Loves:
80's New Wave music, nature, ponytails, dogs, photography, chocolate,
quoting movies, and being silly. Also, and this may sound
cheesewaddy, but I really like making other people feel good (there
are opportunities to be kind and complimentary every day). I'm
cheerful and gregarious (but also snarky and bitter, so don't worry).

At the moment, I will say that the St Francis Fountain in the Mission
is my fave restaurant (tho, technically, it's just a teeny-tiny
diner). They have crazy good milkshakes there, and grilled cheese
sandwiches on rye. YUM. (They also sell retro candy and trading card
packs you didn't know existed. They have _Growing Pains_. The TV
show. Seriously!!)

I live in Mill Valley and can be in SF in minutes (will take me a
little longer to get to the East Bay). I am down for meetups to jump,
turn, and practice, practice, practice! So glad this G group exists.

Okay, WAY plenty enough from me. Smell y'all later!

love,
Chaos

* Dude, that pun was so not intended, I swear. I just noticed it and
cracked up.

Hello everyone!

Well, I am sorry to say that I have never had the privilege or
opportunity to jump with the fine folks at SFCDD, and I'm even sorrier
to hear that the group is taking a break! From what I hear and read
it sounds like loads and buckets of fun. As for me, I'm a jumper from
Seattle moving to the Bay area this weekend, and I heard about SFCDD
via a fellow jumprope friend in the Pacific NW. Despite my timing
with the break and all, I am thrilled that this Google group exists
and I'm psyched about meeting you all and doin' some jumpin'!

1. Name (and/or nickname) Carly Sanders. As for nicknames, for some
reason "Carlin" has stuck.

2. How long have you been jumping? All in all, I've been jumping for
about 20 years now (yikes!), though a bit less consistently in more
recent years. Started out on a team in Southern Cali and did mostly
performances/a handful of competitions. Moved up to the Seattle area
and was nearly heartbroken until I found a team right in my new town.
So, I joined up with them and got into the competition/coaching side
of it a bit more as time passed. I don't compete anymore, but still
do shows here and there and just generally love jumping with others
whenever the opportunity is available--single rope, double dutch, long
rope, whatever! Count me in.

3. How'd you get into it? My older sister joined a new awesome
sounding club at our elementary school and of course, being the
younger sister, I had to try everything she tried. We jumped together
for a year, then she left and I stayed. Jumprope has just kinda stuck
with me ever since.

4. What are you all about? What do you enjoy? Adventure mixed in with
zest for life and a twist of exploration. I like meeting new people,
creating, collaborating, and learning. I'm a big fan of supporting
local communities and local culture. I like hopping around farmer's
markets, cooking up new recipes and old favorites, playing Ultimate
Frisbee, traveling, art history, hiking, dancing (mainly salsa, but
pretty much any kind), distance running, reading, writing,
photography, NPR, doing yoga, laughing at both clever and not so
clever jokes, sharing music and seeing it live, drinking green tea
with my 93 year-old grandma while listening to her stories, and of
course, tearin' up some double dutch or single rope or whatever is
available!

5. Favorite restaurant in the Bay Areaaauuaauuuuhhhh! Oh man, I am so
happy for this question, especially being a newer transplant who
doesn't have a clue where to start amongst the plethora of choices out
there! Despite having family connections in the Bay area and spending
a bit o' time there over the years, I don't know much about the food
scene at all, so I'm psyched to have some local recommendations from
folks who are in the know. So, thanks in advance for all the
recommendations, everyone! Alas, the only contribution I can make
would be this cafe at the top of Telegraph in Berkeley called Caffe
Strada that I stumbled upon a few years ago. Actually, it isn't so
much a restaurant as it is a cafe with some excellent coffee, and an
even more excellent outdoor seating area with the perfect combo of
shady trees and sunshine.

Anyway, thanks all for sharing more about yourselves! Great to get to
know more about everyone. SO glad this group is here and can't wait
to join in on the fun!

Hi everyone...

1. My name is Jenna, aka Genesis.

2. I'm currently in the level 2 class and have been jumping since
July.

3. I saw the SFGate article and had to give it a try. I'd never
jumped before and shocked myself when I was able to do it. Now I'm
hooked.

4. I'm all about my dog, reading, music, beekeeping.

5. I can't pick a favorite restaurant, there are too many and I am way
too indecisive, but my favorite Thai restaurant is Jitlada in Pac
Heights.

I'm relieved that there are so many people who want to get together
and jump and can't wait to meet up!

Hey there! Well I almost tried joining SFCDD stuff a year ago, but
alas job stuff got in the way! My name is Zak but you can call me
Leap Erikson while in the ropez. I used to be in DDWTYH (Double Dutch
Will Take You Higher) which was a team in Cleveland. It was an
awesome time and we performed at a bunch of venues including Studio B
in Brooklyn. Granted it was more about the costumes and theatrics
with us, I have been known to juggle a few scarves will jumping rope.

I would totally love to hang out and jump some rope with people. I'm
a little rusty as evidence from a recent experience in Portland over
the summer jumping rope at a street festival.

Anyway I'm here in the bay area (downtown SF!) working freelance
creative stuff and I'm also a filmmaker.

I would say my favz restaurant is probably Yamo in the mission. Cheap
good food in a dive bar setting, love it.

ok.

born george, my jumprope name is glodge but you can call me whatever
you want.

i want to jump. i've been jumping very infrequently over the last 10
years or so. i just can't seem to get my friends interested in
jumping with me, which is why i put up a craigslist post to find
double dutch partners. one of the responses i got mentioned sfc double
dutch and that's why i'm here. let's jump ropes together.

i got into double dutch at the weiser fiddle festival one year —
perhaps a bird whispered something in my ear — and i went to the
hardware store and bought a couple of ropes and started jumping. my
big problem is finding regular partners so i can hone my skills.

i play a lot of music and think about being and nothingness, that's
what i'm about.

the best pork chop i've ever had was at the magnolia gastropub and
brewery.

i'm not sure how google groups works yet or how this particular group
functions, but i'll figure it out...

Hi All,

1. My nickname (and my DJ name as well) is SpinCycle. (although it should be ADD Boy, since I am always trying to do a million things).

2. I have been jumping rope since high school, but just on my own for exercise. Never really was exposed to Double Dutch until recently.

3.  A friend, Rachel (Dabbler), took me to SFCDD at the beginning of 2010 -- we did well, and loved it, but both of us suffered mild injuries due to our overzealousness, and did not go to the next level :-(  I'm better now and ready for more -- when I return from my trip*).

4. About me: DJ (African Diaspora - hip-hop to coup decale), Dance Instructor, Lawyer; Computer Engineer, Unicycle Champion, San Francisco Carnaval King (2000),  Motorcycle Adventurer (crossed Africa alone), ... basically hyperactive and all over the map!  *Leaving for my 2nd trans-Africa trip at end of Jan, but should be back next summer.

5. Favorite Restaurant....hmmm...Bissap Baobab -- partly b/c I'm friends with the owner and DJed for years at Lil Baobab.

Hoping to jump again soon--with rated R/X lyrics!

HI Glodge -

I never jumped with SFC Double Dutch but I was on a team in Seattle and I moved here a few months ago and I'm looking to get together with some folks to jump.  I'm also looking to start classes in the Bay and maybe pick up the slack where SFC left off.  I gotta tell you, though, it has been slow-going for me because I have been busy with other activities since I've moved here.  But, I'm passionate about double dutch and I definitely want to jump again soon.

hi stacey,

i finally got a couple of people together to double dutch in golden gate park yesterday and would love to have a somewhat regular outlet (every couple of weeks or so is enough to satisfy me).  i'll let you know next time i manage to arrange something, but i was thinking every other sunday around noon by the bandstand in between the de young and the academy of sciences might be a nice goal.
