Bay Area folks, I’m organizing some 18xx games for KublaCon. These aren’t official events, just folks playing in the open gaming area.

I’m using Line chat to do this. If you want to be included use this link to add me as a friend on Line.

I’ll then add you to the group chat.

Thanks,

Steve

Last year I got in a couple games of 1828 and a couple 1830s. I'd not thought about attending this year. I guess it is a bit late to schedule an 18C2C again.

Why Line as versus say Google Hangouts or Slack both of which are already extensively used in this area?

Line works for me.

This is my first time at KublaCon - for those of you local, would you recommend staying at the hotel or are you driving in every day?

Line is used a lot for online gaming.

For some reason I was unable to send the request though.

I take public transit. If you can get to the International Terminal at SFO, there's a frequent free hotel shuttle. I understand parking can be quite difficult.

The reason for Line is that as I'm organizing the games I wanted to be able to control who I wanted to organize for. If I get a player that is disruptive and people don't want to play with I can kick them from the group. I'm of course hoping that doesn't happen, but I wanted the option to do it.

Staying at the hotel is a nice option if you live far away and can afford it. I live 2 miles away and its a 15-minute commute. Ending at 1 AM and being back at 10 AM is no problem for me. Live 45 minutes away and it can really eat into the sleep/playing time.

BTW, someday I do want to schedule an 18OE playthrough. Doubt it will be Kubla though.

I've been parking across the street for many years now without problem.

Nod. I'll be there, I'll play 18xx and that's probably as much organisation as I'll bother with.

Current local discussion is on getting an 18C2C-D game organised. The plan is to dry-run the private auction and a few other bits over the next weeks in prep for a game maybe June-ish.

I resent adding yet another client/platform. Slack, Hangouts, Skype, Discord, Gitter, XMPP, Duo, Line…

Depends what you want from the convention. Parking isn't such a problem, but transport time can be a significant drag that steals not only from both ends of the day (and is unpleasant when very tired), but also from the periods when key game setup/planning tends to happen.

I should be there in the afternoons and evenings.
