For over a decade, Conor Dougherty has reported on economics and housing policy for the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and other prestigious media outlets. He is also the author of a Time 100 Must-Read Book of 2020, Golden Gates, featuring a full chapter on Lafayette.  

From Golden Gates: "The population [in Lafayette] jumped from five thousand in 1950 to nineteen thousand in 1965, before halting in 1968, when Lafayette incorporated into a city so that it could wrest land-use power from the county and put a stop to growth. The incorporation play worked” (94).
