Dear L.,
The past week has brought an unprecedented crisis to Los Angeles County and thousands of Californians. LA’s firefighters and first responders continue to work tirelessly to combat wildfires including the devastating Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, while also responding to new outbreaks such as the Archer Fire.
Everyone at YIMBY Action extends heartfelt sympathy to everyone affected by these fires. In this moment, we want to leverage our greatest asset — all of you — to band together and support organizations on the ground in LA.
There are lots of great organizations doing critical work - here are two we have partnered with in the past that you can support as they work to help those affected by the fires:
PATH is a direct service provider for unhoused people in Los Angeles. Several PATH interim and affordable housing sites were evacuated, and their teams are working to relocate individuals and families. PATH’s teams are also working to provide resources to those who have to shelter in place. When extreme weather events occur, people experiencing homelessness often face some of the most dire consequences.
The Ketchum-Downtown YMCA is collecting donations of water, non-perishable and diabetic food, clean clothing, and N-95 masks to distribute to fire victims throughout the region who have been affected by the Pacific Palisades, Hurst, Eaton, and Sunset Fires. The Downtown YMCA is uniquely positioned to distribute these resources effectively through their sister YMCA centers in the fire-affected regions. Financial donations are also appreciated.
These fires are devastating for tens of thousands of Californians. Your support can help them get what they need to regain stable shelter and housing.
With love and hope,
Leora
