Flexmonkium integration with Selenium IDE

Guys,

It is said that Flexmonkium is an add-on for Selenium IDE, by
Flexmonkey, to enable record/playback on Flex apps using Selenium. Did
anyone here give it a shot? Is tat any good?

I haven't tried it myself yet, but I intend to, hopefully soon.  If you try it before me I'd be interested in your experiences.  I didn't realize it was support for Sel-IDE.  That might be useful, but it must also support exporting to Sel-RC and be able to run from there for supporting continuous integration among other things.  Otherwise it's not very useful other than for beginner Sel-IDE people.  Do you know if it does that?

I would love to give a shot with flexmonkium paul. But, the problem for me is our flex app here is not selenium enabled yet. I am planning to give it a shot next week, against the website http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/mobilephones?cc=ca&lc=en.

As an update Paul,

Yes. we are able to capture and playback Flex apps using Selenium-Flexmonkium combo. Follow exactly the instructions given under

http://www.gorillalogic.com/books/flexmonkium-docs/flexmonkey-setup

It works. Have even generated Junit code. Now the next task to cleanup the code and make it work.

Looks like a good tool till now.

Sivi (or anyone else who knows),

 

I'm not able to get Sel-IDE recording Flex using FlexMonkium yet.  I'm wondering.....

 

I'm trying to run this directly against an .swf file, i.e. without loading an html file first.  Does that cause the Sel-IDE to not record?  In other words, I load the .swf file straight into FFox, open Sel-IDE and the FlexMonkium console, and then I start recording.  I can't get anthing to go into the Sel-IDE window.  But FlexMonkum shows a green connection, and when I open the Monkum verification tool, I can view the object-property list with objects loaded from the .swf.  It appears that FlexMonkium is working but Sel-IDE is not.

 

I loaded the .swf using the URL file:///F:/Data/Flex%20Monkey%204.0%20eval/sample_automation.swf

 

Any ideas?  Have you tried it this way?

Paul,

I am doing almost the same as well. It is working fine.
I can list the problems which i encountered.

1. did you start selenium server with flex user extensions?
2. did you add the statement, -includes com.gorillalogic.flexmonkium.FlexMonkium, in Flex Project properties -> Flex compiler -> Additional Compiler Arguments ?

I did not get to record until i performed the above 2 steps.

Let me know for issues if any.

As a follow up, i have come to know about another add-on for Selenium IDE - Flex Pilot X.
I have not yet tried my hand on that (planning to do it sometime next week).

If possible give it a shot.

Yes, I also just came across Flex Pilot and will give it a try when I get to a point that I can ask our devs to compile in the loader for me. 

 

Flex Pilot is supported by SauceLabs--this is the company created by Jason Huggins, the original designer of Selenium.  I've had some conversations with someone over there and it sounds like their approach to Flex has a lot of support with the folks at Adobe.

1)  No I didn't know I needed to run the Selenium Server for FlexMonkium.  I didn't think I'd need to run it because when using the Selenium IDE you don't need to run the Seleniun Server--that is only when you're using Sel-RC.  I'll do it next time I'm trying FlexMonkium.

 

2)  What is com.gorillalogic.flexmonkium.FlexMonkium?  Is that some kind of a library or something?  You're talking about when the application for testing is compiled into an swf, correct?  If so, we are building the automation_monkey.swc into the app as required by FlexMonkey.  Are you referring to something different?

SorryI haven't responded for a few days, I've had visitors for the past week.  I will keep responding though because we are both doing the same work and I'm sure we can help each other out a lot.

 

So, for FlexMonkium, I think we are misunderstanding eachother. Are you saying, that to use FlexMonkium with the Sel-IDE that I must be running Selenum Server?  That doesn't seem right.  Sel-IDE doesn't require Selenium Server so I thought it wouldn't be needed.

 

Yes, I do intend to export my FlexMonkuim scripts to Sel-RC, but at first, I just want to get it to work with Sel-IDE.  Sel-RC would be a separate problem.  Right?
