Hi,

I'll be out of town for 3 sessions of my Audio Electronics II class and
need a substitute for each. Needn't be the same person for all 3, so if
you can do any of these, much appreciated.

If you understand voltage dividers and RC filters, you know enough. Or,
just have them build stuff the entire time.

In this 11 week quarter we're covering filters. We'll do the math for
passive RL and RC filters, labs (RC only I think) to verify the
calculations, and discuss and build simple active filters on perf boards
that they get to keep. We will not do the math for the active filters,
although we might use the equations in the Active Filter Cookbook to
design filters for specific frequencies.

I'm a firm believer in hands-on learning, and I try to let them spend as
much time as possible building stuff. I let them build anything they
want, e.g. simple 555+photocell Theremins, Altoid tin headphone amps,
kits, or repair their guitars or car stereos. Hands-on time with
circuits and test equipment helps them reinforce the basic electrical
principles we covered last quarter, on which they have a very tenuous hold.

I'm given a great deal of latitude in this class, so really whatever you
want to cover is fine with me. If you have a project you want to test
out, you're welcome to spend all 4 hours in all 3 sessions having them
build that.

I think we'll have about 10 students and the classroom is also our lab.
We have a small stock of electronic parts, soldering stations, test
equipment including 5 oscilloscopes(!) (although only one function
generator so building some sine wave oscillators would be both
instructive and useful for testing the filters).

I'll be happy to pay you what I'd earn, which I think is about $50/hour
before tax. I'll throw in parking at the lot across the street as well.

There will be an official staff teacher present, as school policy
requires that the "instructor of record" must be an employee, but they
likely will be from another department and not know anything about
electronics. It does mean that you won't have to worry about attendance
or anything like that.

The Art Institute of California, San Francisco, is at United Nations
Plaza near the corner of 8th and Market. The staff is wonderful and
helpful, and the chair of our department and dean of our college are two
of the best people I've ever worked with.
