Cherokees appeal freedmen decision
The Cherokee Nation has appealed a recent district court’s ruling that reopened tribal citizenship to descendents of freedmen.
Earlier this month, a Cherokee Nation District Court judge reopened citizenship to freedmen, who are typically African Americans and descendants of Cherokee slaves.
