[OT] Can you replace chin strap on a helmet?

Hi Folks

My kid today cut the strap on my bike helmet - argh!  I'm trying to figure out if I can replace the strap somehow - I can't seem to find replacement chin straps online - the other option I'm thinking about is just stiching the the two cut ends together. 

Any thoughts or ideas?
