I'm getting ready to buy some more inner tubes and was wondering what if any are the benefits of getting inner tubes with threaded valve stem.  My bicycle came with the threaded ones, but in the past, I've been buying the non-threaded.

non-threaded is easier on your pumps (for those that don't always use
the lezyne thingees that thread onto the valve cap area).

Personally, since I never use the features of the threaded ones (I simply put the nuts into the recycle bin), I simply buy whichever one is available / convenient :-)  (Note: I don't bother with the plastic caps on the valve stems, either... I do save them for protecting the tube from itself while rolled up in my toolkit, tho.)

Thereaded as in removable? Or threads on the stem itself?

Tubes with a smooth valve stem put less wear on you pimp head. The downside is if your pump has already been worn by threaded valve stems then it is somewhere between a royal pain and impossible to fill your tube to the proper pressure.

So unless you pump is new or near new, and you only have smooth stem tubes, I would go with standard threaded valve tubes. Unless they are on sale. I will put up with a lot to save a couple bucks.

Threads on the stem; I haven't dealt with the removable ones, yet.

Choices, choices. Less wear on my pimp head, like Patrick? Putting my nuts in the recycle bin, like Jason?

Even on non-threaded presta, there is always some threading at the top
of the valve stem for threaded pumps.

The threading is just for the retention nut.

Non-threaded.   With the Lezyne, you can flip the hose and pump in slip mode on the smooth stem.  For other pumps smooth is better.

(I realize it's tempting.  Resist.)

That's what happens when we roll from Ritual. We must do so more often.

haah, i think this stems from a natural DG exuberance. it would be fun to see what happens when someone does spike his coffee :)

No one's spiked my coffee for 19 years, 364 days, and if anyone did it, I would simply spit out the coffee. :-)

Thanks for the information and the humor.  Never thought I would be laughing my head off over presta valve stems. :))
