Hi Scott,

Good news! The voices of the bike community have been heard, and Caltrain has paused their plans to begin enforcing long-dormant rules banning certain types of bikes and all bike attachments such as panniers and child seats. Instead, they’re now seeking more input, especially from the bike community, to inform their future rules, including for an upcoming pilot to test new guidelines.

On Thursday, March 19, at 5:45pm, join the Caltrain Bicycle and Active Transportation Advisory Committee to share your ideas, concerns, and experiences. The meeting will be held in San Carlos, but SF residents can join remotely.

Bikes On Board is the first item after regular business

With Caltrain ridership booming and 20% of riders using bikes to connect to their train commute, Caltrain faces challenges to maximizing the number of bikes they can accommodate, especially during peak times. Larger bikes and bikes with bulky attachments take up more room, potentially causing others with bikes to be bumped from their train. At the same time, they are unable to add more bike space because of limitations on train lengths that station platforms can allow.

How can Caltrain best address the needs of the thousands who ride their bikes to their stations? Tune in and weigh in! Your feedback will help inform upcoming pilot guidelines that Caltrain will be testing out.

Thank you for everything you do to improve biking and rolling in SF and beyond.

Sincerely,
Claire Amable
