Second of three rides next week to mark the BTWD route.  The plan is to split the marking task between Monday and Tuesday and then use Wednesday as a pre-ride to fill in any gaps.  Presumably, the rides will be slow-ish over the parts we're stickering and a business-like style 2 otherwise.

Since I've never actually done this before, I'd very much appreciate assistance from someone with experience.  I will have the stickers and a brush.

Also, if anyone wants some stickers either to mark parts of the route on their own or to mark a split, I'll bring extra stickers to Ritual (or we can arrange some other way to meet up).

NB: Planning to skip FCF Monday and Tuesday but ride it Wednesday.

Thanks for leading this!!!

I want to sticker but it's slow work and I want to start @ 6am.  When can you be @ RR with the supply?

If I defer coffee and breakfast to Ritual, I should be able to make it by 6am.  Do you have a preference for Tuesday over Monday?  It'd a little easier for me to make it early on Monday, although either (but preferably not both) should be fine.

Note: 6am would be to distribute stickers, but if I do come early, I could probably be convinced to move up the rollout to 0615 or so, if that makes a difference for anyone.

Also, help on Monday would be especially appreciated, since it'll be my first time putting down stickers.

I have a 9:30 meeting on Tuesday, I would do a 6:00 roll-out and sticker for an hour or so, before I have to get to work. Dan?

I can't do Monday, but I've never done it either, so not sure I'd be much help in that way... but I can pitch in on Tuesday, and stay as long as needed--no meetings or deadlines that day.

That'd be great!  It sounds like Peter, Nathan, and Serena are all also maybes, so we should have a good crew for 0630, plus Dan and Marion will be ahead of us.

Mon I have 830 meeting in MtView, so for me it needs to be Tue. Wed is Hamway. It's easy, just put stickers where you think they need to be, leading up to turns and, optimally, a confirmation sticker leaving them. More important later than earlier, since dropped riders will be more likely there.

Do you guys need any more help? I could help later in the week as well. I only know the way to Oracle though...

It'd be great if you could help Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday (hopefully, Wednesday will just be to confirm that everything still looks good, and it fill in where needed).  I posted a separate ride call for each day, if you'd prefer to +1 one of those.

Noting Dan's comments in another thread about 6am stickers - are you doing a 6am rollout, a 6:30am rollout, or two separate rollouts?
I can probably do either but prefer 6:30, and would catch up at Blanken/Tunnel. I assume you'll roll an express route since Cortland has already been covered, but let me know if that's not the case.

Dan, me and Daniel have to be at work earlier than a 630 sticker bayway would allow, and were going to leave at 600, in order to still help some.

yup.  two rollouts -
1) 6a rollout with two dans and one marion.  david will meet us at ritual so we can load up on stickers
2) 630a rollout for the general group

some notes from this morning-
1) one route change - bayshore b/w oregon expressway and san antonio is even worse than normal.  this morning, all traffic was diverted to a single lane.  david and i thought it would be prudent to direct bike traffic onto the bike bath on the east side of the road.
2) mini brush is handy
3) backpacks are a pain to access.  messenger bag is the way to go
4) teams of three work well.  two people stickering, one blocking, managing traffic

I agree that the super sprint has been shitty lately, but that bike path also has issues. It ends very abruptly at the end of a bridge with a bollard. Getting back on to the road at that point is very awkward. I'm not sure that we really want to direct all the bike to work day traffic there. It might be better to just "be a car" and wait for the lane to open.

good point peter.  let's hold off on stickering the super sprint for now.  i'll try to have a convo with the guys on the construction site tomorrow.  maybe we'll have two lanes by thursday.  at the very least, i can give them a heads-up that BTWD is happening and bikes will be flowing.

I'll be at Ritual at 6am to give Dan, Dan, and Marion stickers, after which I will have a leisurely breakfast and what I'm sure will be a much needed espresso to roll out at 6:30am.

As far as the super sprint goes, I guess there's also the option of entering the path at the beginning but then turning back on to the road at one of the driveways along the way.  The one nice thing about the current construction is that traffic is one-way and controlled for a segment and a little less crowded after.  Dan, if you can email the list after talking to the crew, we can try to sticker appropriately when we come through.

I had a bit of difficulty keeping things together.  At one point soon after BTN I got all tangled up.  I stopped, put my running shoes on (which I should have done much earlier: they work better for this), and put everything back in my pack. I then set off, making the Seaport light, but not long after I realized stickers were flapping in the breeze, so I eventually stopped to check and the zippers of my pack had undone and my orange stickers were gone.  I backtracked to Seaport but didn't see them.  Hopefully if someone found orange stickers on the road north of Seaport they'll pick them up.

Yeah -- I've found over and over in all things cycling the parks, ironically, tend to be the biggest hassle.  In Low-Key Hillclimbs we now avoid parks and open space after too many bad experiences.  I recall doing Climb to Kaiser and missing the final turn to Kaiser Pass because it was park land and the park wouldn't let the organizers chalk the road.  Our last Low-Key up Umunhum Road a ranger blasted his truck up the road at around 50 mph, frightening a little girl riding on the back of her father's tandem, to tell us how dangerous it was to be there and how we should have had a permit (long story: we'd already cleared it with the open space office; the roads were essentially public).  There's a lot of good rangers but ....

We should have drive-your-pickup-to-work day and all pass through Seal Point and they'd wave us through with a smile.  SOP.

Anyway, awesome job Tue sticker crew, and nice work Daniel Chao working both days and sweeping the glass from the Bayshore path in Palo Alto approaching University.  That's been there a long, long time and it's great he took the time to deal with what should have been city business.  I ran out of stickers @ Geng, so from there on we're short a few.  But PFC did an awesome job in EPA.

FCF should be pretty good.  I stickered the 92 maze, and a few confirmation stickers, but it's mostly unambiguous.

Update on Super Sprint construction (Bayshore b/w Oregon Exp and SA).  Had a nice chat with one of the project managers.  He said he would give his crew a heads-up on BTWD and instruct them to bundle bikers and let them pass as a group.  Should be a workable solution.  Probably not worth diverting bikes onto the bike path.

Route is looking really good.  With a stickering crew behind us and another tomorrow, we should be a really good shape.

Thanks to everyone who came out today to sticker!  I think the route (from Mission and Cortland in San Francisco to Bayshore and Garcia in Mountain View) is basically done at this point.  Tomorrow, I'm planning to just ride the full route (including FCF) and fill in any gaps or places where the stickers are really falling apart.

And thanks, Dan, for talking to the crew!  We indeed did not divert the route to the bike path at the Super Sprint---the construction does seem to have the side benefit of making the car traffic a little less crazy.

And thanks, Peter Cj and Nathan and Trung, for the pulls...I have many relatively undeserved PRs this morning, I see, courtesy of you all. Fun ride!
