After replacing the chain and cassette on my city bike, I discovered that the chainrings (at least the middle one, it's a triple) need to be replaced too. Since it's my city bike, I'm avoiding spending too much fixing it. Anyone happen to have an old 32 (or maybe 36) tooth, 4-bolt 104mm BCD, chainring, or perhaps an entire Octalink-compatible crankset they'd be willing to give away or sell cheaply? The current crankset is FC-M521, although the left crank doesn't fit quite right (and I can't figure out why) so I'd be happy to replace the whole thing.

I may have something that might work.  I can bring it when I pick up my rear wheel.  Possibly tonight if you are available.

Off topic, but I have this crank on my rando bike, and I really like it.  I can use whatever freakin' bolt circle I want.  Big and little need to match, however.

Dan

P.S. Upside is I have a nice 32/32.  Downside is I have a nice 32/32.  There's something to be said for sucking it up and making it up with what you have.  I felt a bit guilty about using that gear on Purissima Creek when Peter,  Marion, & Lina all made it up w/ regular road gears.  Then to add insult I skidded out and had to walk on some gravel which Marion and Lina (at least cleared).  So forget it: don't use this crank.

Correction: "big and little need to match" is wrong.  The big attaches directly.  Sorry.
