I seem to be on a run of bad luck with bike theft... my garage door was open this morning, I may have left it open overnight, and two bikes were stolen. Of course, this was the first time I've left my nice road bike in the garage overnight because I came home early yesterday and our childcare partner's child was asleep in the room where I usually leave the bike, and I forgot to move the bike back inside. If anyone happens to see my 2009 Scott Addict R4, 52cm, see attached photo, please let me know as soon as possible. Also missing a 25-year-old, rusty green Trek 820 with a child seat on the front, and an older Trek-branded, Chariot-style bike trailer for one kid.

Not that it helps now, but one of the best things I ever did to my house was throw out the old garage door opener and replace it with a newer model that automatically closes after 10 minutes. It's been incredible for peace of mind, and wasn't actually that expensive.

Good look, I hope you get back some or all of your gear!

Another piece of too late advice but hopefully helps someone... I learned this after my neighbor had their garage broken into at night. Thieves will use some sort of coat-hangar like wire to reach in and grab the safety release, releasing the door off the tracks for an easy manual lift open for them. You can use zipties to secure it from the lateral force, which will still let you pull down the emergency handle from the inside as that force should break the zipties.

+1 to Andy's comment.  With ours, I set the auto-close to 2 minutes.
