Was turned away from doing paradise because two cyclists were killed this morning.  Interested in more details.

That's a very sketchy part during school dropoff and pickup. RIP.

I am hearing not fatal, but pretty bad, from someone who knows cyclist who was hooked out there.
CHPBike shows the incident and "Ambulance needed" but not "roll coroner"
CHPFatal is quiet, so probably not an on site fatality at least.

Ok sorry for the false info.  The cop on the scene redirecting traffic gave me false info.

okay yeah the info i got from the passing cyclists and the cop was false or i misheard.

that news story leaves me wanting so much more info.  was the 16 year driving without a supervising parent or guardian over 25?

how could the police not have a reasonable idea what happened?  it was a group ride there were definitely witnesses.

the SUV, being driven by a 16-year-old girl, turned from Paradise onto Upland Circle, said Central Marin police Sgt. Paul Barrolaza. The driver was dropping off her 9-year-old sibling at Marin Montessori School, he said.

"Once you have your provisional DL, you may drive alone, as long as you do not have any collisions or traffic violations on your driving record.

During the first 12 months after you are licensed, you cannot drive between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. and you cannot transport passengers under 20 years old, unless you are accompanied by a California licensed parent or guardian, a California licensed driver 25 years old or older, or a licensed or certified driving instructor."

The story doesn't say if the 16 year old was accompanied by an older adult. If not, the parents are in deep deep shit.

Anyone looking for information on the cyclist hit can see his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/steve.pelaez

Steve is an exceptional cyclist who had competed at several world cup track cycling events and had won many Master Nationals. He also was the leadership behind the Mike's Bikes cycling team, a coach, inspiration to many, as well have a sucessful career and family.

 God bless!

It looks like transporting an immediate family member to school, with appropriately signed letters describing the situation, is something that's okay for a provisional license holder to do in their first year of licensure.

Also, ugh, the comment thread on that MarinIJ story is awful. I need to go bleach my eyes now or something.

ftr, 25 mph school speed limits don't apply if there are no children present actually outside a vehicle on foot by the roadway, on a sidewalk, or crossing the road.

yeah i also made the mistake of looking.  basically some people think all cyclists should die and are in the wrong all the time.  and that is unfortunate.

They have setup a page on Caring Bridge for Steve, one of the riders hit and still in a coma.
