23c. Sigh, just when I was getting used to plushy 25c.

how do 25's feel to you v. 23's?
(can you expand upon "plushy"?)

25c are run at a lower pressure than 23c (I run my 25s at 90 front / 105 rear, compared to my usual 100 front / 115 rear for 23s).  Can help take the shock out of things like Tunnel Ave.  Also better for e.g. gravel road riding, etc.  Larger contact patch, and whatnot.  Combined with a 23mm-wide rim like Velocity A23, you almost have the contact patch of a 28mm tire.

Plus, wider tires have lower rolling resistance!

http://www.schwalbetires.com/tech_info/rolling_resistance

They're also heavier and less aero, so that doesn't necessarily mean "faster".

OT: Does anyone have an old 25 and 28 tire that I can borrow? I want to see if I can squeeze a 28er or at least a 25er in my 09 CAAD9 before I actual buy the tire.

As the owner of a CAAD9, I can definitively say that a 25mm fits and a 28mm does not (front or rear).  You **might** be able to get a 26mm in there, but it would be really close.

if a 28 doesn't fit in the frame, you can forget hitting the dirt with a 25.

Ask Maciek about riding MEBW on his CAAD_ when it was a touch soft (not wet, but soft).

It's not expected to be sloppy on Sunday.  I rode 25mm last year when it WAS sloppy and it was as OK as could be expected all things considered.  (Only trouble I had with mud getting clogged up was coming down Baquiano Trail; I ended up shouldering and running down the trail and cleaning out the mud at the bottom.)

Is this for Sunday?  25mm is what I plan to run... I don't think it's going to be sloppy enough to warrant bothering with my CX bike (in which case I would run 28mm).

Yeah, my 25's were a disaster on mebw. I only had to stop once last week on purisima though (and it was wet) - I think having vertically true wheels helped :).

I am happy to hear you will roll on 25's Jason. That gives me some confidence that I will survive out there. I don't mind walking a bit either, I can even ride with MTB/pedals shoes but I prefer to avoid breaking #34.

Personally, I'm going to ride with my 18 year-old PD-M747s (i.e. "my spare SPDs") that still work almost as good as new (left pedal is a little tough to get clipped into on one side).  I rocked SPDs last year, too, and I was glad that I did.

Either way, ride your road bike.  If it's wet, Murphy plans to tweak the route to avoid a disaster.

I've found 25c to just be all around better.

I ride mixed terrain regularly (read: dirty san bruno, coastal trail, dirty headlands, gg park trails, railroad grade, etc) and I notice zero difference in weight when I'm on the road or in races. Feels way better in high speed turns, too.

Just my $0.02. I also run 23c, just prefer 25c when I can.

You don't even have to get off the road for "mixed terrain". I ride
25s all the time because the roads around here are shit. Between bad
pavement and shoulders full of trash, our roads are pretty tough on
bike tires.
