Hey all,

Not sure if this is the right place to post but just took SF2G Royale a week ago and was quite pleasant past San Bruno - lots of new bike infrastructure being conducted. Strava link for reference.

Safety wise probably in between Skyline and BEX - but definitely an improvement based on what I've heard in the past.

Definitely a good place to post this! Thanks for sharing. I’ve been wanting to try the Royale sometime.

Definitely try it! The only modification I would make is to take Alemany vs Mission St when leaving SF.

Wow, killer time, too. I'm glad the infra is finally getting done!

Thanks Kurt - i will note that I tend to leave around 4:30-5am so YMMV. Near the end to MTV it was getting slightly dicey with the increasing car traffic.

Silicon Valley Bike Coalition has done fantastic work on ECR. Palo Alto, for example, almost rejected new bike lanes on its section of ECR but SVBC organized enough public pressure to get them to accept the bike lanes. In the next 1-2 years, ECR between SF and SSF is scheduled for repaving by Caltrans, but each city council will have to sign off on whether bike lanes get built in its section along with the new pavement. Colma seems pretty on board, but it'll take some pushing for Daly City to agree to bike lanes since it would likely mean removing all street parking.

that’s great news, finally some “royal road” improvements; maybe someday it will live up to its grandiose name.

to echo the very early morning thing - ECR sucks if you leave SF after 6am. so awesome how fast you can go thru Colma etc. when there’s not a single car on the road, and you can blow all the lights (of course, that is not recommended).

Small update - there is still a relatively sketchy portion on el camino that begins/ends around Atherton. Had a couple cars pass closer then I was comfortable with this morning, might have been due to the drizzle.

and maybe also because of the lack of a bike shoulder/traffic lights in that section?

Might also just be part of the problem with Atherton: too much money and too little cooperation with other communities.

IMO the Royale is always best when ridden in a fast pack where you can take a lane. I've fantasized about riding it with my Class 3 front loader as the lead-off bike with other folks welcome to draft. I wonder what time we could make down to MTV.
