Fun question: what is the best place to live in SF for cycling, excluding commutes (which depend on work location)?

This is a poorly defined question, because cycling takes many forms, but I’m curious what people think.

Not that I've ever lived there but I would vote for the Presidio. Lots of nice routes nearby, easy access to the bridge, not too hilly.

Presidio is a good choice.  I think I'd go for the Outer Richmond.  Easy to go north to the bridge but also pretty easy to get to GGP and Twin Peaks as well as points south - Pacifica, Mt San Bruno, etc.

I’m pretty biased I suppose, but Inner Sunset / Cole Valley would be my choice. Not too dissimilar from Richmond (just across the park). Easy access to cross-town bike routes, lots of easily bike-able utility routes (for grocery shopping, etc.), easy access to GG park, easy access to GG bridge, Twin Peaks nearby, fairly easy to head south if you’re so-inclined, lots of nearby hills if you feel like doing repeats, etc.

Cole Valley is a good call -- walkable, access to several major parks, public transit.  The city made a lot of wretched development decisions in the 20th century but other than direct BART access it's relatively remarkable.

I’m in the outer outer Richmond and it’s pretty great. The only shortcoming is lack of convenient transit access for rides in the far reached of the region. Best option is a 7 mile ride down the GH to catch Bart in Daly City.

But all of Marin road riding, headlands gravel, any in-city riding, GGP shredding, or an SF escape down skyline- super convenient.
