Dear Mr Smedley

I am writing to invite you to attend the above seminar. Please note
there is a charge for most delegates, although no one is excluded on the
basis of ability to pay (see below). **

* *

*Seminar*

This seminar will offer a timely opportunity to examine the use of
information and communication technology (ICT) within Britain’s schools
- and to assess to what extent the promised benefits are being realised
in terms of efficiency, pupil attainment and value for money._ _

_ _

The agenda also looks more widely to the educational impact of ICT in
homes, at the record of policy to increase home access to technology and
at the effect that this is having on reducing inequalities between learners.

Including a keynote address from the Chief Executive of *Becta *the
meeting will bring together policy makers with interested parties in
education, business and citizen’s groups.

I have copied the current draft agenda below my signature, to give you a
feel for the morning. You can follow the updated, live agenda here
<http://www.westminsterforumprojects.co.uk/educationforum/technologyeducationagenda.pdf>,
at our website.

Planned sessions examine:

* The state of play: a latest overview of the use of ICT in UK
schools, and implications for public policy;
* Key developments in the use of ICT within schools: Emerging models
for driving cost saving efficiencies in the delivery and
administration of education, and indicators on pupil attainment;
* Technology’s challenge to the education system: latest trends in
the ways that young people use technology outside of education,
and how education might be able to benefit;
* Home Access: is it aiding children’s learning and reducing
inequalities; the role of businesses in its future; and what
technical support needs to be given specifically to parents;
* Latest from the Home Access pilots: what have been the challenges
and successes, what has been learned, and how might policy need to
adapt in the future; and
* Digital skills for the 21st century: the promise of ICT for the UK.

*Speakers *

We are delighted that *Stephen Crowne*, Chief Executive, Becta has
agreed to deliver a keynote address at this event.

Other confirmed speakers include:

The Westminster Education Forum is strictly impartial and cross-party,

I'm attending on Naace's behalf and would be happy to report back. I've also offered to provide some input on open source, but they feel the programme is quite full already. Ho hum.
Best wishes,
Miles.
