Stanford University School of Medicine, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, was founded in 1858 with a mission to be the premier research-intensive medical school that improves health through leadership, diversity, and a collaborative approach to discovery and innovation in patient care, education, and research.


The Stanford Health Improvement Program is a program located within the Stanford University, the Department of Medicine, and the Stanford Prevention Research Center. The Health Improvement Program was established in 1983 and became one of the first university wellness programs, offering health promotion programs to faculty, staff, retires, and family members. As part of the Stanford Enterprise, the Health Improvement Program also provides the employee wellness program for Stanford Health Care and Stanford Children’s Health. 


The Health Improvement Program is seeking an experienced wellness expert to lead and drive the strategy and innovation for the Health Improvement Program and the Stanford Health Promotion Network for the Stanford Enterprise and community/corporate partnerships.

Duties include: 

·         Work with leaders across the Stanford Enterprise to develop wellness offerings across departments and divisions, working closely with Department Chairs/Division Chiefs, Hospital and University Executive Administrative Directors, and Department/Division Directors and Administrators. 

·         Direct the implementation of strategies to improve the personal health and resilience of faculty, staff and hospital employees, including mental and social health, exercise, nutrition and sleep health managing projects to improve employee work environments and decrease stress and workload through partnerships across the Stanford Enterprise. 

·         Evaluate the effectiveness of each program element and develop and implement modifications and improvements.

·         Perform an evaluation and respond to feedback to ensure customer satisfaction and program success.

·         Benchmark cost of services and follow trends to accurately price worksite wellness and Stanford Health Promotion Network (SHPN) services.

·         Identify and develop relationships with potential Stanford Health Promotion Network (SHPN) membership organizations.

·         Foster on-going relationships with all 65+ member organizations (including Cisco, Chevron, Blue Shield, Visa, Kaiser Permanente, and others). 

·         Represent the Stanford University and Health Improvement Program (HIP) within the Bay Area and nationally at conferences, present program design and successes to other wellness, medical, and HR professionals, and work collaboratively with other medical centers across the country to share best practices and program strategies.

·         In collaboration with Stanford University leaders, seek external funding and training program income. 

·         Establish and provide executive oversight of the overall and program/project budgets, income, and expenses for our external network and worksite wellness offerings.

·         Supervise, coach and mentor the Health Improvement Program team members in providing excellent service delivery of wellness offerings for Stanford Enterprise.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


·         Master’s degree and ten or more years of direct experience in wellness program and leadership development.

·         Recognition as a national opinion leader in wellness and employee well-being. 

·         Experience designing and delivering programs for a university and/or university medical center.

·         Current experience with national associations. 


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):


Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

·         Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.

·         Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.

·         Demonstrated ability to develop and meet budget goals.

·         Demonstrated solid planning and organizational skills.

·         Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.

·         Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

·         Strong relevant subject matter knowledge.

·         Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

·         Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks. 

·         Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.

·         Occasionally use a telephone. 

·         Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
