Dear Rootstriker -
This is an invitation to you - as an individual, root-striking fighter of corruption - to join the CA DISCLOSE Act contingent in the Pride parade Sunday. If you feel like it. It's always been pretty loose - and lots of fun. Below is the email blast I sent out earlier to the local working group (with apologies for the extra email this means for some of you).
I do have a message specifically for Rootstrikers: If anyone wants it, I am happy to design some kind of play-money handout that includes both Rootstrikers contact info and that of our Clean and Fair SF group. This would include an action, e.g., to call Assemblymembers Ammiano and/or Ting to thank them for co-authoring SB 52. Feel free to design your own specific handouts if you want. Best to keep them small. Anyway, please let me know. Thanks!
Joni

Dear Disclosure Advocates,
It's time for the
California DISCLOSE Act
to get its own
exposure
at the
SF PRIDE PARADE
Sunday, June 30
from about 11:30am(?) to about 1:30pm(?)
Meet near the foot of Market Street
Enraged at the corrupting influence of big money on politics and democracy itself? You are invited to vent that rage in front of thousands of people.
• Hand out play money with campaign info on it to adoring crowds
• Dress in some kind of Expose/Reveal/Disclose-related outfit - or help hold the banner
• March with Clean Money Campaign's SF working group, up Market from Beale St to 8th St
Ben and I did the contingent-monitor training tonight, and I'm stoked! No pressure about costumes or signs, not necessary though certainly fun - but here are some of the ideas for actions, outfits, signage etc from past parades and working group meetings:
- French maids with money spilling out of their bodices (re-use those French maid outfits from the Clean Elections days - lose the feather dusters and just add money!)
- Secret SuperPAC with mask on
- Politician with Nascar-like corporate logos plastered on his suit, money falling out of pockets
- The fake rear ends with sign "Expose who's BEHIND political ads"
- An actual rear end wearing a thong - same sign
- Politician in a business suit, with a Democrat/donkey button and a Republican/elephant button on lapels, money hanging out of pocket, and the rubber butt, to really contrast with the formality of the suit. With the 'Who’s BEHIND..' sign."
- Grim Reaper with no face
- Hand out small green “bills” during parade, mentioning the hidden funding by Mormons of Prop 8; also simple actions people can take now
- Petition the other groups waiting to start marching
- Banner: the official DISCLOSE Act banner, expanded on either end with something like "Expo$e who pay$ for political ad$"
- Whoever has a green Clean and Fair SF t-shirt, wear it if you don't want to do a costume
Here are some
photos from last year. Feel free to reply to this email with questions, thoughts, interest, rejection, whatever. Or call me at
415-648-6740.
If you are planning to march with us, or think you might want to, please let me know. Details on exact meeting place and time will be made available when we receive our parade contingent number etc. Thanks!
Sincerely,
Joni
