Here are the minutes from last night's meeting.  So awesome to see so many new faces.  

Reminder: May 19 Biz Viz action at 12:00 p.m. Location = Rainbow Grocery or Safeway @ Church & Market.

SF Rootstrikers' Meeting Minutes - May 7, 2013

Attendees: Szelena, Carrie, Sara, Aaron, Jeff, Natan, Gabriel, Cameron, Sergei, Ben, Deb

I) About Rootstrikers (Szelena)

  • Szelena was guest speaker and informed us about the nitty gritty details regarding the organization.  

    • 2 staffers

    • Rootstrikers is project of Fund the Republic

    • Rootstrikers has no Board of Directors.  

    • Target demographic is 20-44 y.o.  

    • Org as “citizen teachers”

  • How can volunteers participate in the strategic decision-making of the organization?  

    • Answer: getting involved with the street team.  Being active in Rootstrikers translates to increased responsibility and leadership.  

  • Volunteer Dashboard feature of website in Beta.  Coming soon.  

II) Biz Viz Action, May 19 (Deb & Aaron)

  • Mobile App allows people to see the campaign contributions of companies by taking a pic of products / brands.  

  • Coordinate action among street teams nationally to use this app May 19

  • Two ways to engage: filming ourselves looking up product info as we “shop” (in groups); discussing purchases of other shoppers (and potentially filming that).  

  • Other ideas to take advantage of this app / opportunity:

    • Hold a “Dinner Party” which showcases the campaign contributions for the products / ingredients you’d by to hold a dinner party.  (+film)

    • Competition / Scavenger Hunt (highest contributing Bay Area company to federal elections; largest recipient of local subsidies, etc.) (+film)

    • Interview people coming out of stores

  • Details of Action:

    • Sunday, May 19 at 12:00.   Location = Rainbow foods or Safeway in the Castro.  

  • Deb will organize subcommittee meeting to flesh out details.  

III) Disclose Act

  • Full floor Senate Vote on May 27.  Needs ⅔ to pass.  

  • CA Clean Money Campaign will be push phone banking into high gear just before then.  Phone banking orientations available weekly.  Check their website.
