This Is How It Should Be Done: Successful Strategies To Recruit And Retain Black And Latino Mentors
For many mentoring organizations, identifying mentor-rich sources for volunteers in the Latino and African-American communities is particularly frustrating. One of the biggest myths is that Blacks and Latino men don’t volunteer—they do! This session will focus on challenges associated with recruiting Black and Latino mentors, and offer promising practices that get real results. Participants will:
· Recall specific challenges faced when recruiting volunteers from these communities
· Discuss organizational challenges around cultural competency
· Learn the limitations of certain types of mentoring for targeted groups
· Learn promising practices utilized by successful mentoring organizations
· Develop a mentor profile, recruitment toolkit and the importance of targeted marketing
