BUT... you already knew that!

Hi everyone,
First I apologize that we have not had a meeting scheduled yet for the year.  I will pull up the notes from the last meeting we had and we'll take it from there.

As there are new agencies on our listserv, not everyone may be aware of the joint event the DA's office held in January with many of our mentoring agencies.  As a recruitment and appreciation event, DA Gason (led by Rebecca Prozan) and Marcus Books hosted a wonderful evening allowing interested volunteers the chance to do a meet/greet with various mentoring agencies, as well as honoring over 30 dedicated mentors!  All SF agencies were invited but not all that wanted to participate could.

So- here's another chance!  A HUGE thank you to Rebecca and DA Gascon for being willing to host another event.  It's not too late to be a part of the planning process!  Here are the details from the first planning meeting that occurred yesterday:

Folks

Thank you so much for coming to the meeting yesterday!

We've all agreed to partner on an event to increase opportunities to find new mentors to help our youth.  The mentoring organizations will give the DA's office their top five mentors ask them to bring a friend to the event.
We will have a pre printed card with opportunities for the friends to commit to a future event as another way to cement interest in serving as a future mentor.  We are flushing out what the future event/future events will be, ideas included a school clean up or another mixer for the adults to team up with youth in some fashion.  People committed to bring back ideas to the next meeting for the future event.

The date for the event is January 16th (tentative), and it will be either at the PUC if we can work out the timing issues or potentially 1300 Fillmore.  SFUSD will provide photographers.

We will have an information table for organizations to have literature available.

We also discussed having a press conference to announce the event on January 15th.  The DA's Office is considering this as a possibility.

Regarding outreach, I've attached the flyer from last year's event for people to see.   We'll be changing the ask to include bringing 10 people who have expressed interest in mentoring, participate in one of the future events, get the word out, and attend.  We have already reached out to the African-American Chamber, the SF Chamber, USF, 100 Black Men and everyone is very interested in a more meaningful participation than last year.

Please contact Rebecca Prozan with any questions or to say "Count Me In!"

Our next meeting will be

December 5th
2:30-3:30pm
@ Ella Hill Hutch

In the meantime, have a great holiday next week!
Best,
Rebecca
