National Boys & Men of Color Mentoring Convening in Oakland June 16
Friends for Youth and MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership are inviting you to attend a special free mentors-only event in Oakland and contribute to a campaign that will provide better support and empowerment of young men of color through mentoring.
Thanks to generous support from the Open Society Foundation Campaign for Black Male Achievement, MENTOR has the opportunity to strengthen mentoring by developing a training specifically for people who mentor these boys, many of whom are significantly marginalized from U.S. economic, social, and political life.
To inform the training curricula development, MENTOR is partnering with Friends for Youth to co-host the Boys and Men of Color Mentoring Convening in Oakland. At the convening, we aim to learn from you to improve mentoring for boys and young men of color around the country. We hope you'll benefit from opportunities to network with colleagues in and around Oakland to improve conditions for boys and young men of color.
This invitation-only event will be held Monday, June 16, 2014, from 5 – 8:30 pm in downtown Oakland. Dinner, with vegetarian options, is included in this no–cost event. As space is limited, we ask that you RSVP as soon as possible. Once you indicate that you will join us by registering online, we will send location information.
Invite your friends and colleagues who mentor to attend but remember that we are strongly encouraging everyone to register in advance to help us plan the day. Space may or may not be available for those who do not pre–register.
