Tues evening I went up to Mindego Gateway for the first time to view and image the comet. Unfortunately there was a stream of crowds and cars all evening and the ranger was busy kicking folks out but they would later park and leave their lights on at the gate. The marine layer came in and it would have been a bust anyway.

Wednesday I went to Lake Sonoma and had much better luck. There were three others spread in the lot besides myself to view or image the comet. At least two were there for the first time.

Visually, it was quite a bit fainter than Tsuchinshan-atlas from last year but still nice in 10x42 binoculars. My image is a stack of total 23m exposure at 135mm f/2.

Excellent image, Moshen!  I’m sorry I missed you on Wednesday at Lake Sonoma.  I was there on Thursday night and felt the comet was at least a few tenths brighter than even 5 nights earlier (from a different darker site).  I found it  fairly prominent naked-eye — the COBS website reported visual magnitudes estimates from 3.7 to 3.9 — with the tail extending more than half the 5° field in my 12x36 IS binoculars (perhaps 2.7° to 3° in length).  I believe it’s pretty close to maximum, but even if it is clear next week, the moon is going to wash it out.

As you said, it’s no Tsuchinshan-Atlas from last October (or NEOWISE in 2020), but still quite nice!

Gorgeous shot, Moshen!
Can you share the details of the subs? Were they tracked?

Thanks
Ashok
