I was thinking about this (now apparently public domain) atlas last time out observing, asking myself what I would want if my laptop became unusable (battery, power supply, whatever).  So I began poking around and found link to a PDF version.  But when going to the link my malware program told me "no do, not safe".

Millennium star atlas: an all-sky atlas comprising one million stars to visual magnitude eleven from the Hipparcos and Tycho catalogues and ten thousand nonstellar objects - Anna’s Archive https://share.google/KUlv4EGdMuvXXEqZB

Has anyone used that site, or by chance know where else to download a PDF version?

I'd love a hard copy version, but it looked so nice last I'd seen one I would hate to muck it up out in the field.

Mark... I downloaded this atlas a while ago, and I think it was from this site. I had no issues at all. My only comment would be that the pages are not black on white or white on black, but black on a rather dingy-looking blue-gray background. On my laptop screen with a red filter, it is not too easy to read. It is certainly possible that I have my PDF reader setting wrong, but I have tried several times to make it black on white and have failed.

I took your image into a photo editing program and turned it into black and white and increased the exposure .

If you go to the following website and scroll toward the bottom and use “slow download” you can easily get all three volumes of the book.  Or amazon has a copy for just under $900…

OK... but how do you do a group change of a 556-page pdf?

The original link was only volume 1, the second link I provided is for all 3 volumes...

Scott,

If it's the same website, my newly installed malware security program (result of a very unpleasant attack) identified it as a malware risk.  This is why I asked for other repositories.

In any case, the PDF version is really hard to use on the observing field unless it is printed out, and that is a lot of printing! I use Megastar 5 instead, which is also currently freeware, and it just blows Millenium away when it comes to convenience and the amount of information available...also, you can display RealSky on Megastar and get a nice preview.

Here is a comparison chart that Copilot made for me....
