Occasionally there are discounts available, and I've been holding out
for the 50% discount on the hardcover set.

There's also a PDF/EPUB version normally priced at $79.99.

However there's currently a sale on ebooks which brings the price of

I'm not sure if the ebook will "fit my use-cases", but I figured it is
more convenient than the hardcover when I'm at Lick Observatory, and
at just $15.99 worth the risk.

I bought my copy of Luna Cognita when it first came out, and there was an option for the ebook for free with the hard cover.   I found its not really a very usable ebook, at least not on a tablet or phone.
