Here are a handful of my favorites:
"Rocket Man" ("I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time"), Elton John (1972)
The entire Moody Blues album, "To Our Children's Children's Children" (1969). This was a "theme album", based on space flight and the space race. I have often thought that it was inspired by the science fiction novel, "Star Maker", written by Olaf Stapledon in 1937 -- the lyrics to many of its songs are a good fit -- but I can find no hint on line that this is so. The first track, "Higher and Higher", is particularly powerful.
"Well, Did You Evah!", composed by Cole Porter in 1939. It contains the lines "Have you heard / It's in the stars / Next July we collide with Mars." The song is perhaps best known for its use in the 1956 movie, "High Society", for which those lyrics make no sense, but it was first performed in the 1939 musical "Du Barry Was a Lady", and in 1939 there was a quite close Mars opposition in July, so kudos to Cole Porter for getting his astronomy straight.
"Aquarius", from the late-1960s musical, "Hair". The reference is astrological, but correct in that sense: "When the moon is in the Seventh House / And Jupiter aligns with Mars / Then peace will guide the planets / And love will steer the stars / This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius ..."
"Have You Seen The Stars Tonight", Paul Kantner and Jefferson Starship (1970).
The "Tom Corbett Space Cadet Song and March" (1951): "From the rocket fields of the academy / To the far-flung stars of outer space ..."
"The New Frontier", Kingston Trio (1962): "Some to the rivers and some to the sea / Some to the soil that our fathers made free / Then on to the stars in the heavens for to see / This is the new frontier ..."
