A fellow TACo reminded me this afternoon about Saturn's thin rings tonight.
I wasn't sure if I'd see them, since I was using a small refractor and they were almost - but not quite - edge-on.
As it turned out, I had a nice view of the thin-looking rings through the Pronto, using a 5mm type 6 Nagler eyepiece. 96x. This was around 19:00-20:00 PST, around the time Saturn was culminating.
It felt good to observe this with TeleVue optics... here's to the late great Al Nagler <3
At first the seeing wasn't so good, but then it improved, and I could see one moon following the rings - I'm thinking it was Rhea, but it might have been Dione. I could also see Titan appearing to hover just above the rings on the preceding side of the planet.
Neat! Glad the sky was clear, and I'm grateful for the reminder. Glad I got to see this.
