I ended up going anyway and had a personal best view of M51 nearly straight up. It was so cold and dew formed steadily so switched out several eyepieces several times. Managed NGC 5139 Omega Centauri over and through a tree that finally came alive after a few tries at it periodically. M104 popped at times and was a thrill as a favorite. Tried phone imaging M42 and needs a camera or more efforts 😅
The night was SQM 21.3 to .5. Seeing for Jupiter never held for more than a moment showing how challenging a night at times. I skipped the truck tent and when I left it was 41 degrees at 330am. All the dew equipment saved the night and worked 💪
Alone for 6.5 hours, the chirping croaking nearby due to water somewhere, would stop suddenly abd then I was really alone but when I looked up it was the sky totally connected with until the chirps suddenly started up again for whatever their reasons. My cases were as wet as they must have been. Never seen such dew on such a cold cold beautiful night.
