This time to get in this hobby, for everything besides imaging I suppose, is not now.

Cases to protect your expensive sacred gear:  $120 more! Almost double now for high end Pelicans. Go Harbor Freight which are still not cheap.

Mounts: for $800 even $1000 more? Do you even want to know best selling AVXs were $650 shipped? I bought two, and should have never sold one.

Eyepieces: That new Ethos? How about $250 more.

And Telescopes: 8SEs, Celestron's best selling telescope in the world, therefore most produced, is still at least $500 more. And they won't be throwing in a 2" diagonal if you get it.

What is the point here?

You, like all of us here, had a profound discovery we call Amateur Astronomy.

We need to stick together on this thing and help each other more than ever to navigate this steep incline to keep people like yourself in the hobby with knowledgeable decision making and 100% support. 

Go to clubs and star parties, sit in, help, or start an outreach. Find your main interest direction and never waver because it will be expensive and harder and harder to sell it if you do.

If you can conjure it up in your mind.

It means that the mind can do it.

If anyone is interested in a case, I have one I’d like to sell. It is a Celestron Optical tube carrying case for a 8 or 9.25 SCT.

Amazon sells it for $449.00, but all I want is $200. It’s in excellent condition because I’ve only used if a couple of times and only transporting in the back of my car.

I have a JMI SCT case that  I used for storing a 10"  Meade LX50 that I will sell for $250.00.  Will deliver within 50 mile radius of the bay area for no charge.

By the way, my biggest running expense in this hobby has not even kept up with inflation and actually gotten cheaper: gasoline

I hate the 17 miles per gallon that my truck gives, especially with the beefier off-road tires and the poor aerodynamics from the ladder and truss poles on the roof. It also sucks to burn up so much gasoline while engaging in a hobby that appreciates nature and seeks to preserve our ability to enjoy the universe. So while it hurts my wallet less, it still hurts my conscience the same! The good thing is I don’t commute to work anymore :)

I bet your Odyssey 24 would fit in a Highlander Hybrid with the seats folded or removed, they claim 84 cubic ft.   Those supposedly get an EPA  MPG of 35 city, 35 highway

That is the strategy I use, on a smaller scale. I have a Prius V (the station wagon version last sold in the US in 2017) that I removed the back seats from. It holds my Obsession 18 UC, equatorial platform, ramps, large case of eyepieces, three bins of accessories and bits and bobs, observing chair, step stool, small table, round carpet for under the scope, and all my camping gearing including a 12x12 popup, large table, "zero gravity" chaise lounge, camping chair, 1950s-vintage Coleman camp stove, outdoor carpet for under the popup, tent, sleeping bag, food, etc., etc. No four-wheel drive, but it has negotiated rough gravel roads with care taken to avoid high spots. I'm quite happy with it.
