I did something I probably shouldn’t have last week: a mental inventory of my telescope collection.  Something has to give, so I’m offering up a Discoverer model 6344.  It’s a 76mm, 1200mm FL refractor in the original wooden box, with mount, eyepieces, and all the other accessories, in very good condition.  I posted it on cloudynights for $250 but will knock off $50 for TACos.  I’d also consider donating it to a worthy cause that would make use of it — any suggestions?

since you posted that on CN, i took the liberty of pointing it out on a thread about classic scopes, and got several 'oooohs!'   :)    one guy said...

The 6344 OTAs are wonderful scopes! Great objective and the focuser is easily converted to 1.25”. I had one that I cleaned up, converted it to 1.25” and gave it to my daughter and grandson with a new set of eyepieces. It produces very sharp images and false color is at a minimum for an achromat. I recommend it!

Dang it, John, stuff like that is going to make me reconsider selling this scope!

Thanks for passing on that assessment.  I hadn’t thought about the conversion, but it would be simple and completely reversible: the draw tube is about 1.5” with a screw-in adapter to hold the 0.965” eyepieces.  All it would take is a different adapter to 1.25”.
