This year has been off to a great start for me when it comes to astronomy. In terms of KPIs, I'm at 190 new objects since the start of the year and 16 nights under dark skies. I think I should slow down a bit. Yet, here at a latitude of 13 °N, the southern skies beckon, showing me a teaser of what a trip to Chile or Australia some distant day might reveal. I've been raiding them like a kid in a candy store, having never seen some of these beautiful objects before, despite the terrible extinction we have here. Whereas I can't comment on the LMC or 47 Tuc yet, I can certainly tell you that Carina is really really something. Here's a report:
