Mark W, and I are planning on going to Coe on Wednesday , July 8. Moonrise is around 12:40, so not a long night of observing. Maybe imagers can work with moonlight.

We’d love some company!

Richard and I have the overflow lot July lock combination.  If anyone wants to arrive earlier than us, email us for the code.

I believe moonrise is 01:13 on July 9.  With astronomical twilight starting at 21:39 on July 8 and the hill to the east delaying visibility of the great obliterator a bit, we'll have close to 4 hours (you may quibble over begin or end of astro twilight).

Mark:  I would like to join you and Richard up at Coe, not sure when I’ll arrive or depart.  May I get the lock combination?

Are we allowed to overnight there, sleeping in my van?

Cheers, 73s, Clear Skies and Clear Blocks,

Ray

Ray,

I have imaged all night and packed up around 5:30am without issues.  I have not “camped” in the lots at all but have slept in my truck while images are going.

Drew:  Thanks for the reply, I just don’t want to ruin TACs relationship with the Park.

We've slept in vehicles without being bothered.  OTOH, there is a nice campground a five minute drive from the observing site.

Mark:  If my equipment and memory cooperate, I might do an extra night or two?  I prefer not to destage and restage each night.  Are multi-days/nights permissible?

Yes, you can sleep in your vehicle at Coe. Just can’t set up a tent.

I assume as long as you pay your use fee, there's no problem.  OTOH, I am communicating with Coe about leaving the gate dummy locked when that's how we find it (not locking it shut with our lock if that's possible), and that what they want.  Leave it unlocked if it is dummy locked.  The reason is there are work crews that use  that lot for staging and equipment, and they do not know our lock codes.

So, Ray, I think you'd be able to stay (paid).  I've frankly never been asked about multi-day usage.

Won't be able to make Coe this time, good luck.  We've been recently hiking Coyote Valley OSP south of Calero/Bailey Rd, open 7 to sunset.  Between the hills and farmland.  I may drive down to check out night lighting, see if worth asking for after hours access like montebello.  Clif

I hike that 4 mile loop frequently.  I've been curious about astro there too.  Thanks Cliff!
