VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- An operational test launch of an Air Force Global Strike Command unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4, between 12:21 a.m. and 6:21 a.m. from north Vandenberg.

Any chance this will be visible from the bay area?

I would say YES especially if you are way from city lights; if it heads to the Utah test ranges then it will go overhead.   I remember one night at RCDO a similar launch from SSBN near VandenBerg lit up the skies as it sped towards Utah test range.

I say "go for it.   I think I will, esp if the fog us kept at bay near my home.

Clears

I have seen Minuteman launches before from Fremont. The weather is the king. A full moon does help in a way, it will illuminate the vapor trails if there is any.

When the timing is right, I have went out in the front yard and watched the Delta/Spacex launches.

When I can, I will make the @4 hours drive to Lompoc just to watch the launches.
