Figuring on observing from the visitors lot. If it's crowded there, which it can be on a Saturday, I'll roll down to the Chapparal Lot at the end of the road.

Simple trip in the 2-seater with binoculars.
Mebbe see you there!

Do you know if it's possible to bring a telescope trailer there?  I ask because there seems to be ever shifting regulations about The Pinnacles.  Also is there a good place to get a few hours of sleep outside the park?

Hey Sean. What to do when you bring a trailer is park in one of the long spaces at the end of the lot away from the visitors center. Those are deliberately made for extra-long vehicles.

The regs for the Pinnacles have stabilized. https://observers.org/pinnacles-west/

The Motel 6 in Soledad is clean and comfortable. And it has a nice restaurant right next door, the Windmill.

Won't be going to the Pinnacles tomorrow night. Had a molar pulled and feel like minor crap.
For those of you who haven't yet made that choice, don't get old.

Don't get old?  What are you suggesting? ;-)

Get very old!  Even get crotchety if you like.  Just stay active. And do astronomy.  That way nobody knows if you're old in the dark.

That's the molar of this story.

I dropped out of SJAA so am not getting their news anymore. Drew, is this one of their so-called starparties where you can't bring a scope nor even a camera, just observe thru their telescopes? A unique plan. There was a coven from SJAA years ago who pulled this stunt in the visitors center lot on the west side.

I saw that on there website.  You can come, you can bring your bino's but you can't bring your own telescope.

SJAA’s star party is not in the parking lot. The park has set aside a field for it by the old barn.

Interesting.  Their website shows the parking lot.

I’m going to go to Pinnacles West Saturday night.
Will overnight at the Motel 6 in Soledad, before heading home Sunday morning.
Would love to have company.
