The Montebello Perseid curfew ends on Tuesday the 12th. At least that's what Leslie's email says. Kinda fortuitous (for deep-sky observing) that the Perseid closures and the lunar interference are coincident this year. We might still have a lot of post-peak Perseid crowds on Wednesday, but I'm hoping to get out with binoculars to MB if it is clear.

Regards
Akarsh

I’d like to join you.  Are permits still required there?

Yes they are! They are still free to apply and self-issue on the internet

I’m canceling my OI after looking at the marine layer lingering on the Los Altos hills on my way home

Some of us are planning to head to FPOA tomorrow

I missed you there.   It turned out pretty nice, stayed until midnight when the moon had washed everything out. Montebello is kind of a clown show these days though.  People parking on the street and walking around with bright flashlights.

Wow, I guess fortune favors the brave! Looking up from the bay at the marine layer, I thought it would be a wash out so I told myself "Why drive an hour back and forth for an hour of observing that's potentially a wash out".

I've generally seen that it's a clown show whenever there's an astronomical event going on

I said the same thing years ago at Mt. Wilson on a "washed out" observing night. I was going the next night saying, oh those poor observers who paid.

Turned out they had much darker skies and a much better night! ;)
