For those of you who were not at Calstar, let me give you some context. I posted this a little bit as a joke as Saturday night was cloudy with a few holes in between the high clouds. Most people had left except for David, Jamie, the Santa Cruz Astronomical Society group, Alan, Steve and me. I had packed my telescope but there was Venus next to the thin crescent Moon and I thought the constellations looked pretty behind the veiled clouds so I decided to take a few pictures with my new camera and low f-stop lens.

If you are interested in night photography, there is a meetup group called CDARK. They organize classes at Chabot Space Center and night hikes around the Bay Area to take night pictures. https://www.meetup.com/astrophotography-under-dark-skies/
I hope to join one of their hikes in the future. As a coincidence, on that same day we were at Calstar, they had a meetup at Pinnacles, I would have liked to attend that. I hope they do it again. Pinnacles must be fantastic after dark.

Nice pictures, Muriel! They capture really well the atmosphere.

I was at Lake San Antonio on Thursday and Friday, and the “field of dreams” looked definitely more populated on those two nights. It was my first time at CalStar, and boy I wasn’t disappointed! On Thursday night, my sky quality meter read 21.70 mag/arcsec2, I hadn’t seen a reading that high in the last three years. Friday night started with some clouds, but it cleared out after midnight. I imaged on both nights – the result is attached, and also in high resolution on Astrobin at https://app.astrobin.com/i/wdmgy0

Thanks for sharing the meetup. I see the organizer is Mason Hall, who is the exhibits developer at Chabot, in addition to being a really nice guy with great ideas and passion for cultivating the astroimaging community in the Bay Area.
