On Aug. 5 at around 2:34 a.m. ET, the upper stage of a discarded Falcon 9 rocket will collide with the moon at 5,400 miles per hour near the crater Einstein on the western lunar limb

source....

thats 11:34am PDT on the 4th, and the moon will be VERY low, like 3 degrees above the ENE horizon.

Henry Coe overflow lot seems to have a good eastern horizon - Anybody planning to go? Does this lot have a gate code?

"To the moon, Alice(Elon)..."

There is a combination lock park staff kindly provided for us.  The gate is often dummy locked (but not always).  I can provide the combination off-list, it changes monthly.

The June 30th note (below) states 11:34am, the event is PM.

About the overflow lot - from there the true eastern horizon
(0° alt) is obscured by a ridge running east to north, "delaying" visible moonrise.  The moon's azimuth rising the 4th at 23:34 is 72°.

It might be possible (not certain) to view from the campground parking areas - but I think that's chancy.  Maybe try the backside of Mt. Hamilton on Hwy 130?  I've never been past the observatory, so its a guess.  Or park near the observatory entry road and walk up, it may be visible - I think the eastern view is clear to the Sierra from the backside of Lick.

Will this event make Elon mankind's biggest solar system litterbug? Should he be sent to clean up his trash?
