I've been looking at the next several new moon cycles and beyond,
and possibilities. Here's what I've come up with...
There's movement on the possibility of Calero County Park for local
south bay easy access observing. The park's parking lot looks very
good, and there's some help occurring now with an initial permit
submission that would provide more "legitimacy" to TAC as a group
increasing likelihood of approval on an ongoing basic - perhaps in
the vein of Montebello with MPROSD.
There appear to be two trips brewing for August, both exploratory.
One is to the western slope of the Sierra, seeking an observing site
at 5000-7000 within 2-1/2 hours of the bay area (I see just today
Akarsh posted on California Dark Sky Enthusiasts: CDSE, after doing
this sort of field work). Richard Navarrete and I have similar
plans for a short August trip during the August new moon period.
There is also a push for other sites in Nevada, following up on the
Berlin-Ichthyosaur Star Party that occurred this past June. Some
are indeed already under consideration, one of which on a B&B in
a Bortle 1 to 2 border (less than 7 hours) for August too, I'm
curiously interested and discussing at this point.
I was talking about getting some of the original TACos together, and
Jeff Crilly mentioned CalStar in September. Well, its been a very
long time since I've been, and I get pushed every year, so this one
is on my schedule. It is convenient.
Maybe the Calero thing will mature in time for a trial near-town
event in October.
After that, its whether the weather. And dreaming of GSSP again.
Anyone interested in the above things contact me.
