Well, if all goes according to plan, the respooling should be easy. I just won an eBay auction for a wire measure/spooling rig like the hardware stores have. It will be a good experiment, anyway.

I'm interested as well.

BTW -- I'm expecting the wire spooling rig that I grabbed off of eBay should show up about a week from today. I'm assuming that will make the job of whacking it up much easier. It has a length counter -- 1 lb of ABS 3mm ABS rod should be right around 200 feet. We'll have to try a couple and weigh them to get calibrated.

Do we have an accord?
(I've got $75.60 with Eric's name on it.)
MakerBlock
Let me know where we can meet up and I'll be read to help and bring my
$75.60.
Thanks,

?? I think your post came through OK....
Makerbot says that the package shipped, but USPS tracking doesn't yet
confirm that it's been picked up, so I'm not sure that it will be here
by the weekend.

Cool!
USPS tried to deliver my wire rig today, but nobody was home to sign for it. I'll pick it up tomorrow. Since there is "some assembly required", I doubt that I can have it ready for a respooling party until after the weekend. My main time to work on it will be Sunday afternoon.

Do we have a plan for when/where to do the respooling?
Today I managed to get the respooler about 80% set up, and should be able to complete that work sometime Sunday. While I expect it to work, there is some chance that it won't work for the ABS rod since it wasn't designed for that -- in which case we will need a plan B.

Just a thought - don't want to burn Eric's time.
I'm busy this weekend but could make some night this week.

I'm in the same boat as Tox in that I am not available this weekend. During the week I can meet in the east bay or peninsula.

Another approach would be loop counting - figure out how many loops

everyone gets roughly same total weight of slightly different

I ordered a MakerBot from batch 12, so I should be getting it near the
end of March.
I'm also interested in getting colored ABS, but I can definitely wait
since I won't have a use for it until I put everything together. I'll
probably need only 1 lb of each color to start with, and I'll have a
roll of black ABS from the deluxe kit that I can share if anyone wants
some.
Michael
When should we do the chopping?
-dave
I'm busy on Monday through Wednesday, but other days are OK.
Usually Thursdays would be OK, but I'm tied up on the 11th.
Are any of you guys TechShop members? Maybe we could do it there. My
membership is lapsed, but I should probably rejoin.
-dave
I am not sure. Did you guys count me in on this round? I sent an email
but i never saw a confirmation.
Eddy
1) Divide the spools into less than 1 pound portions. Maybe 0.5 lb.
or 0.75 lb., for those that don't want or need a full pound of each
color?
2) Order more 5-pound spools
I'm fine with either option. I'm leaning toward #2, even if it leaves
me with more filament than I really need.
Note that MakerBot Industries just announced a $12 sampler that is one
pound total of all their ABS colors (natural, black, red, green, blue,
yellow). Anyone that doesn't want

I'll be out of town from Thursday until April 5. The best day for me
to do anything about this would be Sunday April 11 or Sunday April 18.
I don't have any room for people here, so we need to do it elsewhere.
Well Michael, I'm going to take you up on your offer. I'm putting together
a repstrap at the Hacker Dojo right now, and we have NO ABS at all.
Black is cool so if you want to drop off a pound or two that'd be highly
appreciated.
