Sew Whats New Week in Review

Creating With Needle & Thread

Good day everyone. I know it has been a while since I sent anything
out to you all. A warm welcome to all my new subscribers. I hope you
enjoy our little newsletter.

SEW WHATS NEW:
Yes, the site is gone. The morning it went down I had some very mixed
emotions. Sad, relieved, sad, relieved, old, sad, then relieved again.
I went back and forth, in fact I still am. Some mornings I lay in bed
wondering if I did the right thing. I know I did but when a site that
was so established says goodbye, it is always with a mixture of
feelings.

SEW WHATS UP:
Many of my loyal members have moved to a brand new site http://sew-whats-up.com
They moved together as one big family to new boards that one of the
girls put up just for them. You are all more than welcome to join. The
owners name is Kaitlin and she is a wonderful girl.

SUMMER SEWING:
I have done nothing in over three weeks. Yes, I know. A really sad
commentary on my life lately, isn't it. However, I had house guests
for almost three weeks. Let's just say the day they left I let out a
huge sigh of relief. That is just too long for anyone to endure. I
smiled so much my face hurt. I do have a knit top almost finished. It
was started weeks ago. Vogue 2945 is a square neck cowl which
interested me. However, it turned me right off when I found the front
to be lined. The fabric I chose was a swirly knit from Timmel Fabrics.
I didn't relish the idea of a double layer so I cut what was to be a
full lining into an extended facing. Maybe, just maybe I can finish it
up this week sometime.

I also have lingerie to make for our local sewing guild. They supply
the fabric and the items are donated to a woman's shelter. A good idea
I think. After all, the women in the shelter don't usually have the
luxury of time to pack everything they need. I am thinking some one
piece bottoms and a t shirt of some sorts for tops. I have stretch
elastic for waistbands and straps.

THANK YOU ALL:
I would like to thank everyone for their kind messages sent to me when
I announced the site closing. People were so very understanding, it
made the closing a bit easier to handle. I received a comical card
from one of my members today. Such a thoughtful lady, thank you Kay
Tee.

I don't know if you noticed or not but the old Sew Whats New
newsletter from Yahoo is also gone. Just before I took it down, some
unethical so and so decided to spam my list of subscribers. That was
just the straw that broke the camel's back. I also told Yahoo exactly
why I took it down too. I doubt if human eyes will ever read that
message but it gave me a little satisfaction to let them know.

If any of your sewing friends or family subscribed to the old
newsletter, they will not receive anything else from me until they
sign up at the Google group. Tell them to email me
mar...@gmail.com and I can sign them up. I would love to develop a new
newsletter with some interesting links and newsy sewing chatter.

BACK TO SCHOOL:
Have you noticed all the flyers lately selling back to school stuff. I
noticed a sewing machine for sale in our local Canadian Tire store for
$19.99 It is very small with loads of bobbins full of brightly
coloured thread and some spools as well. Do NOT let any of your
friends buy one of these, they are junk.

INSPIRATION:
Here is something to think about. Travel to different sites than you
usually visit. Just yesterday I visited Sense and Sensibility. They
have some of the most interesting patterns. Not for everybody, they
are Edwardian but if you can use your imagination, some of those
garments would be quite lovely made up in modern fabrics and colours.
Julie Culshaw pointed me in the direction. I am going to go back when
I have some spare time.

IN CLOSING:
Hopefully, I will have more links and solid information for you next
week. I soon have to get myself back to some sort of schedule. I have
rambled on long enough. Stay well, have some fun and happy sewing
everyone.
