A couple meetings ago, Steven Johnson showed us a graph of EV sales by country. That graphic was based on 2023 data and Vietnam and Thailand hardly registered at all. Those countries have now jumped ahead of most other countries in the world with their EV adoption. The official numbers for 2025 are 40% of new car sales for Vietnam and 24% for Thailand. I happened to visit both of those countries in March of this year and the fuel shortages caused by the US/Iran war had already hit those countries (along with India, China and Japan). This has served to energize an already meteoric rise in EV sales and has even started to invade the scooter market that is huge in both countries.
