The meeting and summer potluck dinner took place at the Ballard Marine Building, thanks to owner and host Kent Bakke.

ALSO E-bikes - Amy Hattemer, Seattle market manager, gave a demonstration of the new electric bikes, called T-MB (Transcendent Mobility Bike). The bike has a 750-watt motor and a range of about 60 miles with the standard battery, or 100 miles with the performance model. The company started four years ago as a Rivian project, and it separated to the independent ALSO company a year and a half ago. ALSO is giving test drives at pop up events and will be opening a temporary store on a six-month lease this fall. TESLA - SEVA president Stephen Johnsen showed photos from the July 31 grand opening of the new Tesla facility in Renton. The 120,000-square-foot building houses sales, delivery, service and a body shop for collision repairs.

LITHIUM FIRES UPDATE - After Stephen gave a presentation about lithium battery fire safety last month, he reported that a friend in California accidentally sparked a fire when building a wooden battery box in a box truck, and he inadvertently drilled into a battery cell. Photos showed that the truck was destroyed in the ensuing fire.

KENT CAR SHOW - The car show will be at Kent Station on Aug. 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They have added an EV category, and the show charges no fee to register. 

CHEVY S10-E RESTORATION - Stephen gave a presentation about Micah Peterson’s S10-e restoration project. Micah has been working on the restoration of GM's EV1 VIN212, and the S10-e uses the same drive train. Fewer than 500 were built, and most got crushed along with the EV1s, but a few were sold to fleets. Only a few dozen are left. Micah was able to buy the S10 from an owner in Oregon. Stephen helped tow it back. The project is helping to inform the work on V212. He also bought the defunct EV Bones web domain and brought it back with archives of the S10-e and EV1 and their nickel metal hydride batteries.

Next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the UVillage west parking garage.

In order to climb significant hills, the motor, not just your feet, needs to access the gears on an eBike, usually with a mid drive motor. Does the eBikementioned above use that technology?   Thanks
